Notre maison

Our home is located in the sleepy little coastal community of Shelter Cove, California just on the ocean side of the famous California Redwoods. The home itself is 3bd, 2ba with 3 queen beds and one twin bunk. The interior is simply but beautifully decorated in ocean motif, boasts vaulted exposed wood beam ceilings throughout, huge windows with ocean views, gourmet kitchen, quality linens, 2 living rooms each with satellite & big screen HD LCD TVs and all other comforts you would expect in a great ocean home. We also have 2 ocean kayak's (1 person each), surf & boogie boards, high speed wi-fi internet and a 4 person spa with great views of the ocean! Shelter Cove is just over 5 hours away from both SFO (San Francisco) and SMF (Sacramento) airports- the drive from either is lovely and best taken as a full day travel adventure. Shelter Cove is a happy/sweet but tiny town- please do not come here if you want city life...rather, it is a perfect place to relax & appreciate/explore the wonderful bouty mother nature has to offer.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I (Amy) am a Hospice RN and my husband Matt is a farmer- we live and work in Live Oak California, about 4 1/2 hours from Shelter Cove. I work 7 days on/7 days off so we try to get to our Coastal Retreat as often as we can. We have been married 9 years, and we bought this Shelter Cove home together on our honeymoon. We've put so much love and attention into our home we look forward to sharing it with others. Because it is a second home we don't have to have concurrent trades and will consider traveling to anywhere in the world if there is ocean or snow skiing nearby (we especially love California ski locations, So. Florida & Hawaii). We have 3 children together, all very well behaved teens/young adults (15, 19, 20) and they travel with us only occasionally. We often take one or more of our parents with us on our travels though.

Please note-this is not our primary home and it rarely has people (including ourselves) in it more than 10 days a month. We NEVER arrange simultaneous exchanges and rarely even exchange with primary homes that are lived in everyday. We have 5 trips that we have "paid-forward" and still need to schedule so odds are we may not travel to your home for a couple of years. Please do not ask about exchanging simultaneously, we don't do it.

Shelter Cove, where the King Range meets the Pacific Ocean, located just below Cape Mendocino (the westernmost point of California), is the jewel of Humboldt County. Unlike other towns along the California coast, Shelter Cove is not accessible directly off the main "Pacific Coast Hwy" SR Hwy 1, thus it has never become overdeveloped and remains one of the few pristine coastal areas left in California- this is why it is called the "Lost Coast". Because the King Range mountains begin (or end) here at Shelter Cove, a short drive up the development will yield 180' views of the California Coast @ 2500ft above sea level, yet our house is down the hill & located within walking distance to everything (including the beach, tide pools, golfing, restaurants, etc.). Permanent residents of Shelter Cove are mostly retired but there are also families and vacationers- we've had our house 9 years and have NEVER come across a grumpy person in the Cove. There are 3 restaurants, a take-out Pizza and a deli in town, but my kitchen is equipped with everything you need to cook the most gourmet of meals. The most popular activities in Shelter Cove include fishing, surfing, golfing, crabbing, the BEST abalone diving in the world (World Records here), whale watching & hiking. It is a must to have a car for the trip because you are within short driving distance to quaint towns and shops, the California Redwoods, wine country (Sonoma & Napa), San Francisco & other northern California secret spots.
