Notre maison

Our home is comfortable, clean, and cozy with a lot of natural light. It has a modern kitchen with an herb garden outside, and adjoining dining room where all the family can eat. We have a well-used fire place in our cozy living room. We have a piano in the living room, and a violin and guitar in the house. We have clean, wooden floors. We have four bedrooms, two with queen-size beds and one twin bed on the second floor.

We also have a finished basement that sleeps 4-6 additional people (2 queen size beds). We also have additional air mattresses of various sizes. The basement has a TV, separate access, shower, and a kitchenette (kitchen is still under development). This will be ideal for bringing another family along with you on vacation, or for a non-simultaneous swap so you can stay in privacy even if we are still at home.

Our house is surrounded by large, mature oak trees. It is in an area of the DC Metro Area called Takoma Park. It sits up on a bank in a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood easily accessible to Washington, D.C. by bus, train, cycling, or car. Our home is connected to Washington, D.C. by a 5 minute bus ride from our neighborhood to the DC Metro Red Line train. Union Station is a 10 minute ride to Takoma Park. We have a fenced-in back yard with an herb garden, large hammock, trampoline, charcoal grill, and fire pit. We have two adult bikes, three children's bikes of different sizes, and a tandem bike!, which you are welcome to use.

We are open to car swapping. We own a Subaru Outback and a Mazda 5. We have parking in front of the house.

We have a backyard with a trampoline, barbecue grill (charcoal), hammock, and Adirondack chairs.

We have hi speed Wi Fi.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are Frank and Kim and have two younger children. Frank is from the UK with family in western Scotland and the south of England (Bedfordshire). We are both professionals. Kim is a conservation biologist and Frank is a network engineer. Kim founded a small eco-travel business for families and field courses for teachers and we enjoy traveling immensely. We mainly flock to places that offer a lot of outdoor activities (hiking, kayaking, etc) as well as access to urban attractions, such as restaurants and museums. We also enjoy small villages. Wherever we stay, we like to live like the locals and get to know the people there. We have done one home exchange so far (domestically) and loved it. We also like to get to know your interests beforehand, so we can facilitate your stay here in Maryland and the DC area.

We have neighbors of all sorts of backgrounds: artists, environmental activists, journalists, non-profit and Federal government professionals, physicians, aid workers... The Old Town area, just a 5 minute bus ride away near the Metro/train, has plenty of nice restaurants, including an authentic Italian restaurant with oven roasted pizza, Korean, Thai, Middle Eastern, and Cafes with bookshops, music, and entertainment in the evening -- all restaurants are laid back, inexpensive, and family friendly. There are two parks in the neighborhood for kids, both next to a beautiful, ankle-deep creek for more added fun.

It is easily accessible to downtown Washington, D.C. A popular area for music and clubbing is U-Street.
