Notre maison

Our home is in Oakland, with views of San Francisco, the Bay and bridges, about half an hour from downtown San Francisco by car or BART, and a couple of miles from the University of California at Berkeley. The Napa/Sonoma wine country is an hour away; it's two hours or so to either Carmel or Yosemite; the drive to Lake Tahoe is under 4 hours. We built the house in 1992. It is fully-equipped, with three bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. Our cars are an '04 VW Passat sedan and a 2014 Kia Soul. We are non-smokers, and have no pets, although we often provide vacation care for neighbors' animals. Our Upper Rockridge location is a quiet residential neighborhood, with shopping and BART nearby. I am retired after 35 years in the publishing industry; Georgia is a docent at the Oakland Museum and bakes little fancy desserts and hors d'oeuvres for a catering firm, in our kitchen. Over the last fifteen years, we have had successful home/car exchanges to Boston, Maine, Seattle, Santa Fe, England and Paris.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We met as undergraduates at the University of Washington in Seattle--immediate fireworks! We celebrated our 50th annivesary over the February 1st weekend with our daughter and son and their families at Pebble Beach. Georgia has always referred to herself as a homemaker, but she has enjoyed her work with the deli and catering firm, of which she was one of the founding partners 20 years ago. She's a docent in the History Department at the Oakland Museum of California! My career was spent as college text representative for Houghton Mifflin; I'm still big on books. I'm a docent at the Oakland Zoo, and I volunteer at our local library branch. I do what I can to support Georgia's gardening passion, and I'm fascinated with viticulture. I play a little golf. We love traveling.

We're at 500' elevation, which affords views of virtually the whole Bay Area from every room. It's a walkable neighborhood of upscale, landscaped, single-family homes, with nearby shopping, restaurants, parks and transportation. There are persimmon, apple, guava and lemon trees and a few vegetables--beans, tomatoes, peppers, chard--and strawberries. Nearby (1/4-mile) Lake Temescal Regional Park is a great place to picnic, swim, walk and jog. We've lived here for 50+years.
