Notre maison

We are fortunate in that every room of our apartment enjoys a tree-filled view directly across the street to Riverside Park. In the winter this view changes to become one of the Hudson River glistening behind bare trees. We have many books, mostly literature and art books, as well as a large CD collection which would be at your disposal. There is classical, jazz, world music and some (mostly old) rock & roll to choose from. The apartment building was built in the 1920's. The architect, Rosario Candela, is noted for some of the most significant residential buildings in Manhattan. His work is recognized for having gracious layouts and charming detail. Indeed, for a one-bedroom apartment, this floor plan has a very agreeable flow. There is an entry foyer, a largish living room, a hallway separating that room from the bedroom and a kitchen which is quite large. It is fully equipped & newly renovated. All the rooms face West (hence the park views). The light is especially lovely in the afternoon, at sunset. The bathroom is newly renovated with marble flooring. It too has a large window facing the Park and is airy and pleasant. We have a cleaning lady who would be able to come once a week. The building itself is professionally staffed with 24 hour doormen at two entrances, porters and a live-in superintendent. There is a complete and modern laundry room. The staff are all very friendly and always helpful. We are within two blocks of all transportation and taxis are readily available at all hours of the day and night.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a recently married couple in our early 50's. My husband is an Australian, retired lawyer, who is now involved with philanthropic endeavors. He has lived in England for many years where he raised four delightful boys who now live independently in London. I am a lifelong New Yorker and will happily offer special insights into this fabulous city. We both especially love music, art and literature, skiing and wine. When he is in New York City, my husband runs daily in Riverside and Central Parks. Our favorite past-times are playing chess and traveling, both of which we do as much as possible. Our dates are often flexible and we welcome non-simultaneous exchanges as we are often away for weeks at a time, leaving the apartment vacant. We are meticulous about cleanliness and respectful with other people's property as guests have always been with ours. We have enjoyed a few exchanges, usually non-simultaneously, and they have always been cheerful experiences on both sides!

Riverside Drive is an Avenue that was developed during the Pre-War years as one of New York's genteel neighborhoods, much like Park Avenue. The apartments were traditionally designed as large and graceful family homes. There is a consistency of architecture which, combined with the lushness of Riverside Park across the street, sets this part of New York City apart. The feeling here is residential, yet also lively. Restaurants and all manner of shopping conveniences are one block away on Broadway. This part of the Upper West Side has always been a magnet for writers, artists and musicians and as such exudes an atmosphere of intellectual curiousity and cultural appreciation. We further enjoy the vibrancy and charm of an Ivy-League college community as Columbia University campus surrounds us. So the tempo on Broadway (one block East) is cheerful and youthful. On Riverside Drive the mood is peaceful, elegant and respelendent with nature. Riverside Park is a perfect park for running, bicycling, strolling and bird-watching. It is never crowded and is very safe. There are also public tennis courts 200 metres from our entrance to the Park, across the street. The subway line which is two blocks away gets you to the bottom of Central Park in a few minutes and also provides a convenient and speedy route to downtown, Greenwich Village, Soho and Tribeca.
