Notre maison

The apartment is a second floor apartment in a walkup building with no elevator. The building was built in approximately 1887 and the apartment has ten foot ceilings. The furnishings are very comfortable but not expensive, and the overall style could be called bohemian/sumptuous. There is a library in the apartment of about 700 scholarly books, mostly in philosophy, and many in French also. The living room and library are carpeted with rugs and the kitchen has terra cotta tile. The bed is currently in the living room, studio style, although there are three rooms. In the typical style of renovated downtown new york tenement buildings, the bathroom is in three parts, with a combination kitchen/bathroom sink, a small separate shower/bath and a separate w.c. all within the apartment.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I am a political activist, philosopher, and artist, but not necessarily in that order. I have a workshop behind the apartment building where I make frames for my fine art photography. I can communicate in French. PLEASE READ: INTERESTED ONLY IN EXCHANGES FOR A MINIMUM OF SIX WEEKS. NO EXCHANGES IN AUGUST.

The apartment is located in downtown, Manhattan, New York, in the Bowery/Lower East Side of the city. There are nine nearby subway lines and numerous bus lines nearby as well. Taxis and car services are readily available within one block of the front door. The Bowery is now one of the most coveted areas of the city for many different types of people, which does bring large crowds in Thursday through Saturday nights, yet the apartment itself is very quiet. Literally in the backyard of the building the New Musuem of Contemporary Art is being constructed. Broadway is seven blocks away. There is a park one half block away with basketball courts and a garden which is open on Sundays. The general feel of the immediate neighborhood is still avant-garde and gritty, though it is undergoing 'bourgeoisification'. This being Manhattan, virtually everything one could want is available within walking distance or short subway rides. Nearby neighborhoods: Soho, East Village, Noho, Nolita, Loisaida, Chinatown, Little Italy.
