Notre maison

Last Minute:

We are looking for a non-simultaneous exchange with you being here during the September 18-October 2, 2012 period.
We would visit your exchange offering later in 2013.
Preference to USA west coast and Pacific region including Hawaii.

Note on the climate/weather: If you check the weather on the internet it will show that there is rain nearly every day in Hilo. That is very misleading. It may rain a small amount in the morning and again in the evening and register as a "rainy" day. We love this climate. The average temps for July and August are 85/69. So it is plenty warm with the ocean breeze. Winter storms happen throughout the islands but again the temps are high compared with mainland USA. Average February temps here are 80/64. The lowest Feb. high recorded in the past 64 years was 68!

We are just a few miles from Hilo town yet on the marvelous Hamakua coast. We've exchanged now seven times very successfully. Our new house we have designed was completed as of March 2009. Our home has all the comforts and building quality that we want for our permanent residence. The house has two large bedrooms sharing one bath with an oversize soaker tub and shower, granite countertops. A large living area has high ceilings and ocean view through large picture and louvered windows. Fans throughout. The kitchen has granite countertops, Italian porcelian tile floors, maple cabinets. Brazilian-Koa Pergo flooring throughout. Persian carpets and art from India, Thailand, Bali, Nepal, Morocco, Mexico, Japan and other places. A vehicle is available for exchange. Expansive decks are valuable outdoor living space. It's where we spend a lot of time in the loungers or hammock, or dining and watching the boats, planes and whales that happen by. A cottage on the property may or may not be available.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. Corinna is from the french part of Switzerland and trained there as an architect before beginning a love affair with traveling. Now a US citizen, she teaches, gives Healing sessions and performs weddings. Scott is American who first came to Hawaii in 1973. He was and is active in outdoor education and leads island tours. We both like new and varied environments. Our adventures over the past few years have included: rafting the length of the Grand Canyon, the Sacred Music festival in Fez, Morocco, a month on Patmos and Crete, a number of trips to Switzerland, France, Corsica, Chiang Mai, vast explorations of the American southwest's canyon country, visiting Mexico's pacific coast, Portland Oregon and Victoria, BC. We welcome exploring cities for a change as well. Our most recent exchangers had this to say, "We had such a wonderful time in your lovely home. Rainbows over the back field, breakfasts watching the sun rise over the ocean, serenaded to sleep by the frogs, swimming in the stream - you've got your own piece of paradise here. We'd love to come back!" Additional accessories include: Piano, boogie board, snorkel gear, Specialized "Sirrus" bike, stationary bike, free weights and bench, and more. Studio on property is rented.

Here's some of the reasons that we chose this location: 1) The second largest city in Hawaii is Hilo which is less than 10 minutes drive away. 2) This is lush Hawaii. We have mature banana, avocado, mango, breadfruit and coconut trees on the property, ocean and mountain views. Recently planted are avocado, coconut, mango, mulberry, citrus, Surinam cherry, many flowers, and more. The swimming hole at the stream is a 5 minute walk away. In Hilo you will have a full range of shopping, restaurants, farmer's market and cultural activites. Temperatures are usually 70-85 during the day dipping to 60 at night in winter. There is Hilo Bay with its outrigger canoes and Richardson Beach with excellent snorkeling or Honuli'i Beach park for surfing. The Sunday/Wednesday market is wonderful and the many cultural, artisitic and theatrical events are sensational. There are frequent hula performances, exotic gardens, a planetarium and an active university. 3) It's quiet, peaceful and safe. 4) Hiking, biking, surfing, and a golf course are all nearby. 5) The Volcano National Park is only a 40 minute drive away. This remarkably vast park can best be viewed through their website: http://www. hawaii. volcanoes. national-park. com/. Imagine watching the new lava roll into the sea! At night it is spectacular. White sandy beaches are a drive away.
