Notre maison

Our house is part of an old hall built circa 1700. It used to be the rectory to the neighbouring Church until the turn of the century.
We were attracted to it because of the large walled garden which gives it total privacy ( ideal for our children to run around safely ).
Downstairs we have a sitting room which we mainly use for relaxing with the children, drawing room , conservatory, dining room , dining kitchen with patio windows to a south facing patio, utility room and WC.
Upstairs we have four bedrooms that can sleep 6 plus baby in cot or 8 if we put two spare beds in the baby room. We also have a double sized garage. For the adventurous we have 2 adult bicycles ( one with baby seat) and a child's bicycle ( if our daughter Elsa can be persuaded to lend it out !!).

Quartier

Our house is situated in a quiet village about 8 miles from the Spa town of Harrogate. The village has a fine dining pub , a church and a cricket pitch which is used regularly on Summer evenings. The nearest shop is apprx 1 mile away in the market town of Wetherby.

Next to the cricket pitch is the private road that leads to our house. There are five other houses accessed from the road but as they are occupied by retired people it is nice and quiet - I am afraid we tend to be the noisy ones!

As well as being close to the town of Harrogate we are also about 20 km from the historic city of York with its famous Minster, races etc. In addition we are 20 km from Leeds which has designer shops, fine restaurants and varied nightlife.
Harrogate is known as the 'gateway to the Yorkshire Dales'famous in the Herriot novels. We are also close to the North Yorkshire Moors ( and their coastal towns ) as well as 'Bronte country '. You can find more info at www.yorkshiredales.org.uk and www.northyorkmoors.com.
At one time all my Swedish friends visited London when coming to England and had to be persuaded to 'travel North'. Having experienced the beauty of the area in which we live we now have the opposite problem of trying to persuade them to visit London to 'give us a break'!!- only joking Bjorn!.
