Our house is a 100 year old Craftsmen Style farm house. The rooms on the first floor include a full kitchen, a dining room, a small library, a living room with television and music, a computer and loom room, a pantry, a full bath, and a back porch with laundry facilities. The upstairs has a television nook, a master bedroom with full bath, and a second bedroom. The bedrooms have a king size and a queen size bed. The house is tastefully up to date with all modern amenities. We have dish network satellite television access, radio, dvd, a 100 cd changer, land line telephone, and access to the internet by dsl through the local phone company. These amenities will be left active for your use and enjoyment.
During the hottest of summer days, the house remains cool through the early afternoon and then several window air conditioners provide extra cooling into the early evening. The house is located in the mountains and nights are chilly. The front and side yard are perfect for relaxing and dining (2 full size tables). The hammock between the shade trees beckons.
We are a recently retired couple who moved to this area 10 years ago from Philadelphia. There is an FAA long distance radar site an hour from town and the majority of the men who have manned the site (one at a time!!) have chosen to retire here. It was this way for us. Weâve lived in a variety of places in the world and quickly saw that this quiet life style was idealic for our retirement.
Our children, grandchildren, family and friends live in many different places and it would be a fine experience to trade homes near to them. We travel often and for lengthy periods of time. We spend several months wintering in Bangkok. We love Europe, Canada and America. We welcome new experiences. We would also be interested in hosting a family in return for being hosted while at their home. We are responsible and tidy and would expect those who visit our home to be the same. Additional information by email or phone.
Fossil is a tiny community of 400 people located in the Blue Mountains in central Oregon. It clearly defines unspoiled wilderness at itâs best. It offers grand vistas, 3 National, several State, and many County parks. Fossil is one of three communities in Wheeler County and is the largest. If you can use time for rest and relaxation, this may be your area to vacation. Hiking, exploring, and car touring possibilities are endless. The main occupation of Wheeler County is ranching. The County is known for itâs great beauty. Wilderness areas abound. Remember to bring your camera. The townâs people are quiet, friendly and helpful. There have been no crimes in the past century. The Fossil Mercantile offers all necessities. Two cafes are in town. A local museum is fun and is packed with information concerning our location on the Oregon Trail. It is a lovely 20 minute drive to the next town which sports a movie theater (last weeks movies...not last years!!). We are an hours drive from the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Bend, Oregon is a full two hour drive. Mountain sports, including skiing and dog sledding, are both there and at Mt. Hood, closer to Portland. Portland is a 3 hour drive. Both offer fine dining, shopping, and big city fun. There is much seasonal hunting for elk, deer, turkey, chukar, as well as fishing in the John Day River. This area is high desert with little rain.
