Notre maison

Our large house built in 1865 is comfortable, clean, sunny, and spacious. It has a large recently-renovated great room/kitchen with a seating area, a connected dining area with french doors opening on to the deck, and a wood cookstove (in addition to a modern gas range). The deck overlooks our perennial and vegetable gardens, the pond (for ice-skating in the winter), and has a view of the mountains. Another porch serves as a screened "summer porch" with a seating area and a table for dining. In the winter we move to our south-facing "winter porch" which we have filled with exotic plants. We have cut trails through our 120 acres of woods for skiing and hiking. The house has 4 bedrooms, a "music room" with a baby grand piano that can serve as a 5th bedroom, and two full baths. we have 2 well-behaved indoor cats which would need minimal care. Included in the trade is the use of our 1950 cabin on a quiet and sparsely-populated lake only 15 minutes from the house. The rustic one room cabin can sleep 5 and has a gas stove, wood stove, and gas lights. We have a canoe and kayaks out there as well.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are both in our 50's and are college professors at the small college in our community. Our daughters are 17 and 12 and are musically inclined. We love to travel, especially to Europe.

We live in the Western mountain and lakes region of Maine which is in the foothills and is only an hour from the popular coast and the big mountains. The house is located only 2 miles from the center of Farmington, a small friendly college community with a hospital and a charming typical New England downtown. Fantastic hiking, canoing, and kayaking are all around. The coast with beaches and lobster pounds is only an hour away. We are ideally located for just about any Maine thing you'd like to do, but well off the tourist path.
