Notre maison

This home was built in 2003 -- it is very light and airy with hardwood floors and tile downstairs; custom carpeting upstairs. Guest bedroom downstairs with bath -- perfect for physically challenged member of the family or for guests. Upstairs master bedroom is very large with retreat area attached with bay window -- gorgeous panoramic views of ocean from master. Master bath is custom tiled, 2 sinks, separate garden tub and enclosed glass shower stall. Huge walk in closet. Laundry room upstairs with sink.
Two car garage.

Kitchen has granite counters and maple cabinets with custom tile floors. Family room is part of kitchen area and both have views of ocean. Same with living room and dining room. The house sits up high, so you can see weather formations over the ocean -- you can watch as the marine layer moves in! The house sits about 1.5 miles from the beach.

Small outside area with patio and garden. Banana tree, passionfruit, and lemon trees mixed in with palm trees and lilies of the nile. Fountain provides soothing background sounds. Backyard has glass wall so that view is not obstructed.

Total privacy! No one looks into this house from any window.

Gated community -- extremely safe street -- a cul de sac and this house is about the 7th to the end. Many people on this street are retired or professionals and have this as a second home -- we know each other and it is a friendly and quiet street.

  1. I am a single professional who has been offered a fellowship in Washington, DC for 11 months. I have never done a home exchange before but hope this might be feasible if I can find something in exchange in the DC area.

Carlsbad is one of Southern California's famous beach areas, perhaps a bit more upscale than some, but not as snobby as La Jolla (forgive me La Jollans!). Shopping is good, with an outlet mall within 4 miles (Coach, Ann Taylor, Jones New York, Ralph Lauren, etc.). Downtown Carlsbad (about 7 miles away) is charming with lots of restaurants and little shops.

For nature lovers, the Batiquitos Lagoon is about a mile away and a wonderful walking area, although the whole coast is a lovely place to walk and watch dolphins and an occasional California grey whale. Carlsbad has places that offer surfing classes -- lots of surfers in the area! The neighborhood (Aviara) has walking paths throughout so you can avoid streets and walk for hours. About 2 blocks away is a golf resort with great restaurants and world class golfing. The beach is about 1.5 miles away.

San Diego is about 30 miles south. There is a train (the "Coaster") that goes down the coast and is a convenient way to avoid dealing with the freeways. Mexico is about 40 miles south (Tijuana). A great weekend can be had by driving down to Ensenada or Rosarito Beach. Whale watching in Baja is supposed to be excellent. Los Angeles is about 100 miles north.
