Notre maison

Our arts and crafts styled home is only 4 years old, but full of old and interesting pieces. It is comfy, bright, rustic and spacious. Our downstairs floor is at the moment stained concrete, but by the end of September we should have porcelain tile installed and covering our mainfloor. Unlike most Canadian homes we have no basement. Extra storage is in the loft above the garage. We have a large open kitchen with cooking island and dining area. Our living room has south facing windows and a gas fireplace both of which warm our home up nicely. Our living room is vaulted/open to upstairs. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and ensuite with shower and claw foot tub. We have 2 children- a girl Mackenzie 8 years old and a boy Christopher 4 years old. They each have their own spacious bedroom and toys upstairs. Also upstairs there is a bathroom with shower. Our computer, scrapbooking and ironing corner are upstairs. A tv room is upstairs. We have a selection of kids and adult movies in German and English. Upstairs our floor is wood (fir). Outside, we have a 2 car unattached garage. Winters in recent years have been mild. Meaning we have days/weeks with no snow and brown grass. Other times we have snow and ice and it is nice to use the garage for parking in. Our property is on 6 plus acres and nearly fully landscaped although trees are still immature. When our floor is redone downstairs and I figure out how to use my husband's camera and upload fotos I will add home pictures.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are Nance, Lutz, Mackenzie and Christopher. I Nance lived in Germany outside of Bremen as an Au Paar Maedchen some 15 years ago. Lutz came with his parents to Canada when he was 14. He still has grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins in Dortmund and Westerwald. We would love to spend more time in Germany to visit them, improve our German and show the kids some other countries and cultures nearby. I think it would be perfect if we could swap with others with kids then our kids: toys, books, rooms, friends and classes could be shared! We have lots of German/Canadian friends we could introduce you to. I am a stay at home mum. I volunteer at M's school, mind the house and huge garden and scrapbook. Lutz is self employed with his parents. Oma and Opa would take over in Lutz' winter/slow time. M is in grade 3. She takes tap (dance) and has a pony (named Toffee). Toffee is at a nearby stable/arena. C is in a Calgary preschool 3x/week and goes to a kids'gym "gymtastics"1x /week. Some or all of these classes could be done by you and yours if your time and finances allowed it. My parents live just up the hill behind our home. Dad clears our driveway of snow in winter and is familiar with our heating, plumbing etc. We have an all wheel drive Subaru Forrester for your use. This is Canadian Country side meaning there are no buses, trains, bakeries or postoffices in walking distance. All conveniences are in Calgary some 10 minutes away.

We live about 10 minutes south of Calgary. We are in the grasslands and foothills. As such, we don't have a lot of spruce or pine trees but more willow, poplar and saskatoons. We are in a beautiful rolling valley. Our neighbours are mostly hidden in the trees. We often have deer walking through our yard. Some years we have had a moose or family of 3. We live in a quiet, safe and beautiful place. We do not need a rural evironment in Germany. IN Fact, we might enjoy the change of living in the city. We are 6 minutes to Spruce Meadows horse riding venue and many others. We are ideally located for taking day trips to Bragg Creek, Banff, Lake Louise or the Kananaskis. Jasper and Vancouver are further but worth visiting too. In January 2007, the kids and I took 4 weeks of downhill skiing (could have done snowboarding too)at Canada Olympic Park. Some of the 1988 Winter Olympics (luge, bobsled, high jump etc)were held there. COP is an excellent place for kids to learn to ski. Calgary has all the modern conveniences of modern cities. It is the fastest growing city in North America. We have oil, the Rocky Mountains and clear blue skies and sunshine most of the winter. Calgary has the Glenbow Museum, the Calgary Tower and some restored older buildings downtown but it is not know for its heritage or beauty. If you are sport minded there are health clubs/pools in the far southern most end of Calary in the area called Shawnessy.
