Notre maison

Our home is large and comfortable, with a spacious kitchen and breakfast room with adjoining deck. There is a living room/family room with a TV, and a large, well lit office with 2 computers and free internet access. Also downstairs is a dining room, WC, and laundry room. Upstairs is 4 bedrooms, including a very large master bedroom with balcony, and 2 full baths. We live in a rural area of Vermont very near Smuggler's Notch Ski Resort. We are a 30 minute drive to Burlington, VT's biggest city which is filled with fine restaurants, plenty of galleries, and lots of outdoor living. We're less than 2 hours to Montreal, Canada. Our property is 10 acres (4 hectares) and includes a stream, lawn, gardens, and woods.
In the summer we put up our above-gound pool, which our college-aged kids laughingly refer to as "the puddle"! We have a large outdoor trampline, complete with protective netting, that is great for bouncing and sunbathing. We love to dine outside on our deck and take walks along the dirt roads near our home.
You'll find our home a wonderful place to relax and get away from the stresses of you day-to-day, while our internet system allows you to stay connected if need be. This house is NOT ideal for folks that need a television--we have one, but get no channels--just use it for the DVD and VCR player (which you are welcome to use, along with our collection of movies).

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. My name is Joan and I work from my home office as a landlord and web designer and marketer. My husband Michel is an IT consultant and often works from home, too, which makes our big office with a huge arched window and gas fireplace ideal. Michel is from France originally. We've both lived in Vermont for 20 years.

We have 4 children, all of whom are in the college phase (either "almost," "in," or "graduated"). From oldest to youngest they are Madelynn, Seanan, Natasha, and Joel.

We love to travel and love the idea of exchanging homes as a way of getting to know places better and also to see more places for less money (remember, we've got 4 kids in college!) When we travel we will often be just the two us, but could easily bring one or more of our children. We will be sure to let you know of our intent before we make any definitive plans, of course.

We have 2 friendly dogs, a female black lab and a male rat terrier (very similar to a jack russell). If folks are interested in taking on our wonderful dogs, we can certainly include them in our exchange, or we can arrange for boarding--it's up to you.

We are relaxed people who enjoy a good laugh, and are very respectful of other's belongings and feelings. We don't smoke, drink rarely, and enjoy the simple things.

The town of Fairfax is located 30 minutes from Burlington, Vermont, 20 minutes from St. Albans, Vermont, and 1 1/2 hours from Montreal, Canada. We're also 20 minutes to beaches on Lake Champlain or to Smuggler's Notch Ski Resort.

Our house sits on a dirt road, easily located from the main town. Three homes share 30 acres (12 hectares) of land, so there is plenty of privacy, but neighbors are close enough to walk to.

There are a number of restaurants in the vicinity, and Vermont is home to many art galleries and outdoor festivals. If you love the outdoors, you'll love Vermont in the summer and fall. If you love to ski or sit by a fire, you'll love Vermont in the winter. If you happen to like lots of muddy roads, then you'll love Vermont in the spring, too--but I don't expect a lot of takers for that season :)
