Notre maison

Ours is a lovely two-story home in the pristine lake country of central Minnesota. It is our principal home since we retired here in 2000 and remodeled it. There is a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, bath and entry on the main floor. And a family room, two more bedrooms and bath downstairs, with an outside door to the lake. Many south-facing windows and two skylights let in plenty of sun. There are photos of our house on our website.

Our summers are sunny and warm, usually about 78 degrees. In winter we have some snow and cold weather but often it is sunny, without much wind, then our lake freezes and people fish through the ice. Many people are active outdoors all year around.

Our lake (called Round Lake) is medium-size, about six miles around. It connects by water to seven other lakes, so you can spend all day exploring by boat. Nearby are many championship golf courses and fine restaurants. In the summer and fall, many "weekenders" come to their summer cabins here, and many tourists visit fine area resorts and hotels. We love to sit or dine on our large deck overlooking the lake.

A number of retired seniors, like us, live in this beautiful area, but also a typical cross section of all ages.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. John (age 69) and Elsa (also 69) retired to their lake home in May of 2000. John's father was born in Sweden, and Elsa's family all came from Germany. John has a doctorate in choral music. He worked all his career as a college/university music teacher; he often took student groups to Europe. Elsa worked as a travel agent. In retirement, they now travel each winter to Palm Springs, California, and for a month each fall to Europe (to Norway, Venice, Provence and Portugal). Now they would enjoy a longer stay, up to nine months, living in Paris, Spain, Italy and Portugal. They have been to Europe 19 times, including three long stays in Salzburg and Cambridge, England. They enjoy classical music, reading, television, museums and galleries. And especially travel photography. Look at the homepage for some of their amateur photos.

They are in good health, mild-mannered, friendly, patient and tolerant, eager to move to a new locale and settle in among local people.

There are nice homes all around our lake, and other lakes all around us. But also large areas of forest. A nearby flat bicycle trail extends nearly 100 miles north and south. The Mississippi River lies 15 miles away. The little village of Nisswa (population 500) is five miles north. Brainerd (13,000 people) is ten miles south. Minneapolis and St. Paul are three hours south on excellent highways.

Nearby are a dozen or more championship golf courses, many with fine restaurants. Green fees range up to $135 with cart for 18 holes.

Many people here like to fish, cruise the lake with a drink at sundown on their pontoon boat, eat out, or shop the unique shops in the area. It is a friendly, casual and healthy environment full of honest, helpful people. There is very little crime. We could let people have access to at least our smaller car and, if they are boaters, perhaps let them use our new pontoon boat.
