Notre maison

My cottage is a 1937 home which I totally renovated 6 years ago. Tile floors throughout, gas stove and all the wonderful comforts but a TV and a microwave. It is more or less a compound now as I have one building with a single bed and composting toilet, and a barn converted to a bedroom and full bath with a deck. Both houses sit high on a hill overlooking a creek, the Toe Cane. It is very contempory with open space, no walls except the bath. The barn and the other cottage have no heat or air and are used strickly in the good weather. I have a large deck with table and grill. I eat out there every day in the spring, summer and fall.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I am single, and an artist who loves all the arts and the beauty of the mountains. I have traveled lots and find each city a new and wonderful adventure. I think any of you who love the outdoors will do as I did and not want to leave the area once you have had a taste. I must say I do have pets,an outside dog, but when we have summer storms she is scared to death and needs to come inside until it passes. I also have a very shy cat and for her to come out of hiding may take some time. She is a very cautious bobtail. My other inside dog I will kennel because she is so needy. She is a indoor Springer, Daphne and Mozell the outside dog who adopted me when i came here. I have a security system but do not use it- doors stay open and unlocked but that may take you some getting used to if you are from a high crime area. My neighbors and my dogs take very good care of me.

I am situated 3 miles from the town of Bakersville, NC. Across the road from my house is a rafting business. He takes people on the river for tubing, rafting and kyacking. I have another neighbor has an organized bicycling business. If you bring your rod there is fly fishing across the road in the creek. I located here because of the outdoors and I am in the heart of one of the best art communities, Penland School which offers skilled art classes all year long. I am close enough to Asheville, NC that I go there to enjoy, the Biltmore House and garden, plus their wine tasting and to dine in the Village I also am 35 miles over the mountain to Johnson City Tn. I shop there also. I am 2 hours from Gatlinburg, Tn and Dollywood. We have the most challenging hiking trails of any spot in North America. A different mountain a day and some not for the faint of heart. (You can pick your type of hike) I am also near Boone, and the Tweetsie Railroad- and 2 outdoor dramas. One in Chereokee NC where you can see Unto these Hills. There are many summer festivals with music. It is also an area noted for their Bluegrass music. Any late evening you will find some of the locals fiddling at the Texaco station. Also i might note in the evening in August there are outdoor concerts on the lawn at the famous Biltmore House in Asheville.
