Notre maison

Our house is a typical Victorian terrace, small but cosy, and walking distance from the centre of York. There are 2 bedrooms and also Chris's art studio which has a sofa bed which can accommodate 2 more comfortably. Downstairs is the kitchen, living room, and dining room with French windows onto the back yard where you can sit out in the summer. We continually work on it to make it comfortable, and as modern as its Victorian design allows.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are Chris and Julia Whittaker, and we bought this house to have a home near our daughter and her family who live in the next village, Mairena. They run a small hotel and restaurant, Las Chimeneas (check it out on Tripadvisor). They are always available to offer advice on walks or to help with any queries.

When we are not in Spain, we live in York, UK, where we also have children and grandchildren. We are retired and enjoy our family and travelling to see our far-flung friends. We have done four exchanges over the last couple of years, and they have all worked brilliantly. We are always on the lookout for another trip.

The famous Bishy Road with shops, restaurants, pubs and great coffee shops is two minutes walk away, and it takes 10 minutes to walk into the centre of the city of York. Rowntrees Park is two minutes away and leads onto the riverside which is great for walks or cycle rides. The many museums reflect history of the city - from Roman gladiators through Viking invaders, the 12th century Minster and the city walls. There are art galleries, cinemas, theatres, restaurants of every kind, pubs and cafes, great shopping, nightlife - all without needing a car. We are even easy walking distance to the train station. A hour's drive away are the legendary North Yorkshire Dales and Moors, the quaint seaside towns of Scarborough and Whitby, and historic great houses and gardens like Castle Howard, Burton Agnes and Newby Hall.
