Notre maison

Our home is a 1946 three bedroom Semi-detached, overlooking The Little Knavesmire, a green parkland used for football, cricket, and walking. The house faces Southwest, so enjoys excellent views. It is a brick built house, with light and airy rooms. The open plan wood floored living room/dining area is pleasant and cheerful. The master bedroom has a double bed (55" x 72"), and built in clothes storage space. The other two bedrooms we use as art studios, but there is a double futon in the living room, and the other larger bedroom has a single futon. All have bedding supplied. The smaller studio comes with Mac computer, scanner, and printer with wireless broadband. There are radios, a color TV, DVD player, iPod Deck, and two CD players. There are two smallish gardens front and back, with comfortable sitting area on the front 'terrace' which is quite private. The house is easy to be in and comfortable.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are Linda and Peter Combie. Peter, 68, is a retired secondary school Art Teacher, now painting pictures of his own. Linda, 63, is a free-lance illustrator, working from home. Linda hails from Marin County, Northern California, and seeks an exchange base from which to visit family in Sonoma County and San Diego. We are very open about dates, but prefer an exchange of at least one month, and open to the possibility of two months. We are also open to the location of the exchange, and happy to explore places we haven't yet visited. We've exchanged twice before and would take good care of your home. The neighbors are friendly, and friends are always on hand for advice or help. We'd leave lots of information on recommended places for you to visit, and offer the use of our Vauxhall Astra Car.

The area we live in extends towards York Racecourse, which is a premier flat racing course in England, so it all feels rather rural. However we are just a 20 minute walk from the center of town. There are excellent local shops for food. River walks are easily accessible as is the Railway station. York is a lively walled Medieval city of approximately 200,000 people. It features wonderful buildings and a world class Gothic Cathedral. If you are interested in history it is an excellent place to be. There are Roman Walls, a river, three theatres, three cinemas, and a University which offers cultural events, as well as an Early Music Center, a Railway Museum, and the popular Castle Museum. York is famous for the number of pubs and churches it has within the city walls. There are restaurants and cafes and shopping. Although it's possible to enjoy York without a car, we also recommend trips out into the Yorkshire countryside, as well as to the coast to Whitby and Scarborough. London and Edinburgh are both accessible by train - roughly a two hour journey. The connections to the Continent have improved since the renovation of St. Pancreas Station, where Eurostar trains go to Paris and Brussels. The station is directly across the road from King's Cross Station, where the York train terminates.
