Notre maison

Our home is set in open farmland on the outskirts of the pretty village of Wellow on the Isle of Wight, just off a single track road which is also part of the IOW Cycle Route. The house faces south and is surrounded by a large, tranquil and typically English country garden full of "nooks and crannies". Wonderful for garden lovers! There is a shaded patio, flat lawns, and a vegetable patch. There is no light pollution here so the stars are really visible on clear nights.

The house itself has a warm and inviting feel about it. It's a real family home, functional and lived in, light and airy, centred around an open-plan kitchen. From here you can open up the French doors into a large newly built conservatory which overlooks the garden; a great place to chill out in (outdoors, indoors). There is a downstairs shower and toilet and utility room. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, (three doubles) and a bathroom with power-shower (no bath). Our home is a lovely place to come back to after a busy day exploring the Island or enjoying one of the many and varied beaches that are very nearby. There is a large off-road area for parking at the top of our drive.

I work as an artist and art teacher and have a large, light and sunny studio in the garden which is available for your use. It is a lovely place to hide away in.

If you are interested in exchanging during high summer, you should bear in mind that we are near a farm which has to bring in the wheat harvest at that time of year (usually from late July to late August). This means some tractor noise and movement, however both our previous exchange guests came at this time of year and found it fine.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I am in my early fifties, and have an 18 year-old son and a 22 year-old daughter; both live away from home but would possible travel with me. I'm an artist and split my time between working painting and teaching art in my caravan studio and helping my friend run his boatyard nearby. We all love the outdoors but love city life too, we do a lot of walking in the winter and sail, swim and mess about on boats in the summer. We also like the music festivals that are now well-established here. I like to cook, garden, read and we all love to play music. We have done five exchanges, all really successful and rewarding and we look forward to meeting new visitors who'll enjoy our home and introduce us to a different corner of the world!

Wellow is a small and rather picturesque village about ten minutes from the attractive port of Yarmouth, (with its lovely shops, pubs and restaurants) on the northwest side of the Isle of Wight. We have arable farmland all around us and the Downs just in front. A short ferry ride across the Solent brings you to Lymington and just beyond, The New Forest.
Our neighbours are friendly, kind and helpful. Wellow makes an ideal starting point for cycling or walking...we have bikes...and we are well- placed for bridleways and footpaths. We have swallows, bats and pheasants around us, as well as the occasional badger. In the field in front you can sometimes spot a hare running through the wheat!
To the south of us is Compton, a long sandy beach favoured by surfers and swimmers. Surfing lessons are available here for all ages. Beaches on the Island are safe and family-friendly. We're not far from Cowes, the town made famous by its yacht racing. There is also a buzzing music scene with various festivals throughout the summer including the IOW Festival and IOW Jazz Festival, all attracting big-name bands. The Island has a great variety of scenery, all within a really short driving distance; forests, downs, undercliffs, beaches, rivers and lovely villages. We feel really lucky to live here!
