Notre maison

Originally an agricultural worker's cottage, our home is a spacious and comfortable stone built house in an elevated position in a quiet rural area surrounded by farmland in the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Solidly built in 1914, the house has been sensitively modernised. Though many of its original features have been retained - eg original cast iron and tile fireplaces - it is now equippped with all the very latest mod cons - new central heating and hot water system, top of the range appliances such as washing machine, dishwasher and tumble drier, and a state of the art home entertainment system (2 large flat panel HD televsisons, blu-ray disc player, personal hi def video recorder with hard drive, and a wide range of music and films on CD, DVD and vinyl).
There is a desktop pc with broadband internet access. In addition to its 2 radiators, the comfortable lounge has a gas fire with "living flames" which can be used with, or independently of, the central heating.

The house has good sized gardens to the front and back with a paved patio area at the rear. The garden is also home to Ian's pottery workshop and a garden shed in which the gardening tools and equipment are stored.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. Though you may not believe it from our photos, we like to think of ourselves as youthful retirees. Ian makes and sells hand built pottery (see the Homepage) if you are interested in that kind of thing). We enjoy spending time in the garden, are both very active, and swim and work out regularly at the gym, and are keen travellers.

Our area is a popular tourist destination close to Cheddar, with its famous gorge and caves, the historic cities of Bath, Bristol and Wells. Somerset is offiicially the greenest county in England and has an abundance of delightful countryside, some stunning coastal scenery, and a multitude of picturesque and interesting and historic towns and villages. Within 6 miles of the busy seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, our home enjoys the best of both worlds - rural seclusion and peace and quiet, yet with easy access to larger population centres with all the associated amenities such as shopping, dining and entertainment. We are conveniently situated for the M5 motorway for travel to Wales and the West Country and access to the rest of the UK motorway network. Bristol aiirport, with cheap flights to many destinations in the UK and Ireland, Europe and further afield, is within 13 miles, and Weston-super-Mare station, which provides inter-city trains to all parts of the UK, is 15 minutes away. Weston also has a golf course and a sports and leisure centre with swimming pool, gym etc, and there is a hotel with spa facilties, a gym and a small swimming pool within walking distance of our house. For walkers, there are many country footpaths in the area, and the West Mendip Way long distance path (which passes through some magnificent scenery) passes the end of our lane on its way from Weston-super-Mare to the ancient Roman city of Wells.
