Notre maison

We've lived in our 1940s brick-built home for four years now and we love it! It's comfortable and homely and the large rear garden is absolutely lovely in the summer. The kitchen is spacious and we have a large gas range which is great for cooking on. All the usual mod-cons including a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and large chest freezer. I love to cook so the kitchen is well equipped including bread maker, food mixer and microwave, plus plenty of cookery books for inspiration!

We have an open fireplace in our carpeted living room which is lovely for those chillier evenings (fuel supplied) and we often have bats swooping around outside the window in the summer dusky evenings. The room also has two comfy sofas, a dining table, stereo and large collection of CDs and DVDs. We have a DVD player/hard drive recorder and freeview (like cable but without the really awful channels!) and lots and lots of books!

Photos of the kitchen and living room will follow once our new curtains are delivered!

There is also a separate WC and a utility room downstairs, plus a room that will one day be a dining room but for now serves as additional storage.

The master bedroom has our super-comfy king size sleigh bed (which I adore!) and plenty of storage for clothes etc. There are a further two comfortable bedrooms upstairs, one has a double bed and further storage and the other a double futon. We're re-decorating the double room at the moment so pics to follow.

The bathroom has a shower over the bath, basin and WC along with plenty of storage for toiletries. The airing cupboard at the top of the stairs is chock full of towels and spare linens.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. George and I were married in April this year (it was a brilliant day!) and our plan is for our first house swap to be our honeymoon!

My husband George is a design engineer with the Williams Formula 1 racing team and I (Claire) work for a recycling company in Banbury. We've lived in our house for four years, its our first home. We have a really cute dog called Milo (he'll be on his own holiday!) but no kids yet.

We love walking, we have tons of maps and some nice books of walks throughout the Cotswolds. I love reading (hence all the books in the house) and baking. George is into mountain biking, music and his Triumph motorcycle. We love living in Oxfordshire, the countryside is lovely, the people are friendly and there's loads to do.

We're really looking forward to swapping and we hope it'll be the first (and best!) of many!

Quartier

The village of Adderbury is a typical, Oxfordshire village ie friendly, picturesque, quaint, with lots going on and all the necessary amenities. We have four pubs to chose from, our favourite is The Bell Inn - a proper traditional English pub serving award winning ales! Our village shop is also an award winner and sells everything you could need from the Sunday papers and tasty bacon and sausages for your full English breakfast to washing powder and ice creams. There are beautiful circular walks right from the village.

Adderbury is close to so many fantastic places. A 20 minute drive (bus from Adderbury or train from nearby Banbury or Kings Sutton) takes you to Oxford with the amazing university buildings, great shopping and restaurants. The open top bus tour is a must. You can also reach Blenheim Palace and the gorgeous village of Woodstock in less than half an hour. We're in the outskirts of the Cotswolds with its wonderful scenery, walks and honey coloured ironstone villages. Other highlights of this area are Hook Norton, Bourton on the Water and the tea-shops of Burford. We've maps and guidebooks to help you.

The nearest town is Banbury (3 miles) which has everything you could need on a day to day basis including a choice of supermarkets and other shops. The train station has direct links to London (in 60 to 90 minutes) and to Birmingham (60 minutes). In fact Banbury is ideally placed for trains to Scotland and the South West if you feel inclined to take a trip further afield, it also has excellent road links being close to the M40 motorway.

London is easy to get to by road or rail for theatre, museums, galleries, restaurants, shopping, everything you could wish for if you're so inclined!
