Notre maison

Firstly, sorry for the lack of internal photos, cottage is being internally painted so will upload soon!

Our holiday cottage is a typical old Cornish cottage, built sometime before 1900 (we think approximately 1860) and originally would have been the home of a local quarry worker (Cornwall is famous for its mining - slate, tin,..)

It has 3 comfortable bedrooms (1 Kingsize, 1 double and 1 with twin single beds - all beds are new in 2011), lounge with 2 lovely sofas and TV/DVD player. Also has a wood burning fire for those chilly evenings.

Dining room has a good size table and can seat 6 with ease.

Being very honest, the kitchen and bathroom, while being perfectly functional could do with an update but are very clean. The kitchen has a lovely electric Aga cooker.

Outside is a small but beautiful garden, fully enclosed so safe for the little ones (kids, dog, ...) and a garage to park your car safely.

Happy for visitors to bring a small(ish) well behaved dog as long as he or she a) does not go upstairs and b) does not sit on the sofas. The garden is enclosed so should be safe.

As this is our holiday home, unfortunately there is no car available, so consider either driving or renting one - fly into Exeter or Bristol as well as the London airports of course.

We travel frequently from Surrey in 3.5 hours (avoiding peak times) however the train is an option taking you from London into Bodmin Parkway and hire a car from there (in advance of course). The cottage is 45 minutes drive from Bodmin.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a family with 4, now almost grown up kids (eldest is married, youngest is 13). We bought Hole Cottage in 2010 as we fell in love with Cornwall but especially the North Coast with its rugged scenery, clean clear waters (Atlantic) and peaceful pace of life. We visit often for a change of scene (work, school runs,...). We are in the process of renovating, so please bear that in mind when you view.....

We have not exchanged before but the kids are a little fed up with every holiday being in Cornwall... apparently it is not a holiday if you own the house .... !

We would like to exchange, probably travelling with 3 of the kids only as our eldest has now sadly left home but happily married.

The cottage is in a small hamlet, Treknow (pronounced tre - know) although the village of Tintagel with its famous castle ruin (King Arthur) is only one mile away and can be reached by foot along the amazing coastal path.

Treknow itself is very quiet (sorry not even a shop) although there is a lovely, award winning pub at the bottom of the hill for sampling the local brews and fine cuisine.

The beach is a 7 minute walk, through open fields or down the coastal path (there is a car park if you a) don't fancy the short stroll b) have kids that moan a lot at the slightest hint of exercise (normally teenage) or c) are slightly unsteady of foot (you do need to go over two stiles and the path in unmade and can be slippery).

The beach is beautiful, tidal so very clean, dog friendly, has great surf (has summer life guards), soft sand, and rock pools, and did I mention, beautiful. We often pick mussels from the rocks and BBQ them on the beach. Also a couple of local shops for snacks, ice cream and beachwear. Even in the height of summer there is always a quiet spot to be had.

When not playing on the beach, Cornwall is famed for its tourism, so a visit to Eden Project (, Heligan (, and St Ives should be on your list. Locally there is Port Isaac (location of the Doc Martin TV series) and Padstow for world class fish restaurants or just a lovely harbour walk with an ice cream. Try for ideas.

The cottage is on the North Coast, however within a hours drive are most of Cornwall's tourist hotspots - we have been visiting Cornwall for years and never cease to be bowled over by what is on offer...
