Notre maison

Our home was originally built before 1838, but has recently had major renovations, so that it combines the charm of the old with the utility and space of modern standards. The kitchen is light and airy with space to seat ten people. The rooms at the back of the house have glazed doors onto the large walled garden which is in the English style, - herbaceous borders and a profusion of plants. A vegetable garden and children's garden with ping-pong table lie behind. Our house is a family home, where we frequently entertain our children and grandchildren. A gardener helps us.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are both retired. Simon worked in Computer Science at the University of Essex, and has an abiding interest in the history of British Computers. He is currently writing another book focussed on one company. His great love, apart from his grandchildren, is sailing with the Tall Ships Youth Trust. Rosalind had her own Financial Services business. Her pleasure is in painting and singing. We are both erstwhile members of the Parish Council, and both members of our Carbon Reduction group, Green Sproughton, which is focussed on getting the whole village to reduce carbon emissions. Rosalind is the M.D. of our new community shop which opened in 2010. We enjoy walking together in the lovely Suffolk countryside. We have four married children with whom we keep in close touch, the youngest of whom is now living in Adelaide. Hence our need to swap.

Sproughton village lies three miles West of the market town of Ipswich. Although Sproughton is peripheral urban, the heart of the village is mediaeval, around an ancient river crossing. Our village hall is a 17thC timber framed Barn. Ipswich (population c 120,000) has two excellent Museums and is full of historic interest. We are 10 mins drive from the station which offers a half hourly service to London which takes about 1 hr 15 mins. There are also direct rail routes to Norwich, Cambridge and Ely taking less than an hour. The hinterland of Sproughton offers easy access to many mediaeval Suffolk villages which boast magnificent churches built in the 14thC on the profits of the wool trade, many good pubs, and lots of good walking. You can go all day without meeting a soul.
