Notre maison

We love our house. So do our various family visitors. Its somehow roomy and cosy in the right places, probably because it was fully renovated up to the highest standards to give it a light and airy feel in the living space - with lots of overhead windows. My wife adores the kitchen and its' stylish fitted appliances, and we both love the family space which looks out onto the garden - which is part terrace and part grass - and some woods that make us think that we live in the country. I also have an enormous shed where I work and store everything. This is fantastic for being able to see whats going on in the house, without hearing it (eg mischievous children) and has phone, electricity, a comfy chair and a fridge - designed for rustic beers and artistry. The upstairs is the cosy bit - but still roomy. The main bedroom has a walk-in closet and looks out onto the back/trees. Our daughters' bedroom fits two happily and has a second desk. Elegant shower room. The large bedroom on the top floor feels semi-independent with its ensuite bathroom, and is also very light. Overall its the best of modern in that it's clean and white with wooden floors and tiles, but also got carpets upstairs for comfort, but primarily is just done out in understated good taste. And my wife said I should mention the grandfather clock and the two sofas that face each other and the garden, which take precedence over the big tv. Lastly, there's alot of books in the house - and some very bad CDs (not mine...)

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I'm a British TV director and my wife Mel is an Australian nurse. We do alot of running, swimming and cycling, amongst other things. And playing with the kids, and, sometimes, ever more rarely, just chilling. We feel we're lucky in life and that the secret to the rest of life is to enjoy what we've got, rather than try to acquire more, which is why we want to jump at the chance of travelling when my work requires/permits. I'm also an amateur historian/bore and Mel's a chilled out yoga enthusiast - who can take the mick out of herself. Our kids are small and well-behaved and laugh alot, and eager to meet other kids (and Mel to meet other mums in particular). And my Mum might visit at some point to help with the kids and to talk to anyone about horses, or anything that pops into her head, from one moment to the next.

For those who want the best of London (which is a quick train ride away) and yet also want to feel connected to trees (which the back of the house backs on to) or a common with kids playground and tennis courts (which is just beside the trees) or country parks (the enormous richmond park and its herds of deer and feeling of wide open space is two minutes away), this is the one for you. Its several stress notches down from the rest of London, as you'll tell when the neighbours actually say hello. Its very communal and there are lots of young families. But its not so far from the centre of London that you can't bike it, or catch a cab back from the theatre. Local shops are superb and it has the best civilized pub in the world. Lastly, you're not far either from the river, the airport, or the countryside. That's why we came here to live! There are also lots of good coffee shops nearby (Aussies please note: the UK has finally caught up). And restaurants (French: ditto). The best of town, with the best of country.
