Notre maison

Our house is located in the Scottish Borders, about two miles out from the small market town of Peebles (population 8000), and twenty five miles south of Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city. The house is all on one level, apart from a small upstairs floor in the sitting room.

There are two double bedrooms, three single bedrooms, a sitting room with wood burning stove, an open plan kitchen/dining room/sitting area room, a bathroom, and a shower room. There is a large garden with a pond, a swing (not the one shown in the photos but one from a tree branch) and a trampoline.

Please note we have an unfenced pond in the garden and so the house would not be suitable for families with small children.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. Steve is a research scientist working for the Forestry Commission, married to Janet currently not working but previously also working in research. We have four children Claire (17) and twins Eleanor and Joanna (14). Their older brother, Alistair (19), is doing his own thing this summer so wont be holidaying with us. We have ducks (4) and hens (4) which will provide you with fresh eggs and cats (2) which we would hope that you would look after while staying in our house. Our neighbours are very accommodating with this though if you want to go away for a day or two.

We are looking for a two week exchange within the period we've listed above. We are new to house swaps and are really looking forward to the experience. We love our house and hope you will do too!

The house is about half a mile from the main road (A72), up a private road servicing ourselves and our neighbours. A bus runs every half hour along the A72 into/from Peebles (2 miles away so can be walked/cycled) and onwards to Edinburgh (one hour)/Melrose(half an hour).

Glentress Forest is a half mile leisurely walk from the house. This forest is a premier recreation area, renowned for its bespoke mountain bike routes www.glentressforest.com There is a café and bike shop/hire although if our bikes fit, you are free to use these. There is also 'Go-Ape' www.goape.co.uk an above-ground rope assault course along with numerous forest walks. There is a off road cycle path from Peebles to Innerleithen (about 5 miles) which can be accessed fairly easily from the house.

Peebles www.peebles-theroyalburgh.info itself is a lovely town with a selection of good restaurants and shops, a market every week and a local farmers market every month. The Tweed River, famous for salmon fishing, runs through the town http://www.fishpal.com/Scotland/Tweed/index.asp There is a theatre www.eastgatearts.com, library, museum, swimming pool, public gym and golf course.

Edinburgh is only an hour away where, from the 1st to the 25th August, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival takes place www.edfringe.com Of course there is also heaps to do in Edinburgh before the festival!

The Scottish Borders www.visitscotland.com/destinations-maps/scottish-borders is a beautiful part of Scotland, often overlooked as people head for the better known Highlands. Have a look at Melrose, Jedburgh, and Kelso.
