Notre maison

My flat is in the historic city center of Norwich, it's in a new wing attached to the historic Ber House, an Edwardian building that keeps all of its original features. Mine is a ground floor flat that opens directly onto the lovely, secluded, South-facing courtyard. Being a sun-loving Spaniard, I have invested on 2 deckchairs, a barbecue and an outdoor cast-iron table - all of which you are welcome to use. The flat underwent renovations in 2002 and 2007, and it's cool, spacious, bright and airy, with a Mediterranean feel because of the decor and the choice of colors. There is some designer furniture, some vintage pieces I have restored, and various ethnic rugs.

There's a queen-sized bed in the main bedroom, a double futon sofa-bed in the study and the living-room sofa turns into a comfortable single bed.

I love cooking, so the kitchen is very well equipped. However, if cooking is not your thing there is a great variety of ethnic restaurants and supermarkets right on my street. My flat is a neat, comfortable, bright and relaxed space, and very quiet despite being in the city centre and near all the entertainment. It is also very safe, as we have gated parking at the back of the building and security entrances.

The central location is ideal for city life. I am also lucky that my flat is 30-min walk (5 min drive) away from a lake (Whitlingham broad) with a small beach, a lovely hiking trail and canoeing and sailing facilities.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I am a freelance writer, literary translator and singer so I work from my home and I have made it into a comfortable, artistic space. I don't have a TV, I hope this is OK. I use the computer for movies, the Norwich library has an exceptional collection I borrow from (I'll leave you my membership card). My work is my passion so there are lots of books in the house, as well as all sorts of CDs (mostly flamenco, world music and jazz). You are welcome to use them all, of course.

I enjoy looking after my home and I will treat your home as well as I treat mine, and I hope you will reciprocate.

Being a freelancer I am open to dates. I am also open to long-term exchanges.

I'll be glad to answer any questions or offer advice on exploring the city and the region, just send me an email.

    Thanks for looking!

Norwich is a city of canals, with lovely rivers, parks and trees everywhere. It has a distinct Dutch feel, because of the canals and broads system and the architecture the Dutch left behind. It has the largest remaining medieval center in England, where the breathtaking Norwich Cathedral is. The center is full of quirky little shops, cafes and restaurants, and many antiquarians. Norwich is a bohemian city with a thriving cultural life, especially as regards music and literature. The castle in the center hosts a beautiful natural history museum, renowned for its taxidermy collection. The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, site at the campus of the University of East Anglia, is home to a priceless modernist collection. Norwich is a city with a very strong personality: historic, cultural and botanical.

We are 2 hours from London and 1 hour from Cambridge by train, and 30 mins from Amsterdam by plane (Norwich city airport - a 15 min drive away - offers several flights daily, at cheap prices).

The province of Norfolk is beautiful, and can be explored by car or boat (you can hire narrow boats). There are scores of beautiful beaches and historic buildings to visit in the region, including HRH the Queen's summer residence, Sandringham. The whole region has a very distinct flavor in the context of the rest of Britain: it is the flattest county, and the only one with a working network of canals. As a result, the landscape is unlike any other - the broads and the Fens are truly wondrous places. Norwich combines a bohemian, sophisticated spirit with great, easy access to breathtaking nature. It's a relaxed, slightly eccentric city in the greatest British tradition.
