Notre maison

Traditional country cottage on the edge of open countryside, with excellent transport links.
200 years old, semi-detached, thatched country cottage, on the edge of open countryside in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with excellent transport links across all Southern England.

Entering through a front enclosed porch, you come into the hallway at the foot of a stairway to the first floor. Turning right leads you through to a large living area split into a 'study/home office' and family room. Beamed ceilings, a wood-burning stove, a piano and comfy chairs, far too many bookshelves, armchairs and a sofa-bed... we use it as our 'cosy' room, the snug, the reading or music room, and with the use of a screen its also used as a back up guest room when visitors stay overnight.
On through the glass doors to the back of the house and it opens out into a large open plan living area, with ceiling to floor windows stretching the full length of the facing wall. Light and airy, at one end there's a seating area facing the second of our wood burning stoves (although this one is a 'lookalike' and electric in reality) - and at the other end a large farmhouse table and traditional dresser set the scene for family dining .
Looking out over the eating area is the open plan kitchen with a traditional AGA belfast sink, fridge, dishwasher and microwave. This leads back through to the hallway at the front of the house, where the laundry/freezer/utility room and toilet are leading off to the right hand side.
The first floor consists of a smaller total meters squared area than the ground level - but its still ample living space for a family of four. 2 double rooms, each looking out over the back garden and beyond, and one single room ( a small double bed, and wardrobe/hanging space) Finally the small landing opens into a bathroom with shower and toilet.

Last but not least, at the very foot of the garden, there's a summerhouse looking out onto the table tennis table and an open air hot tub which allows you to make the most of the gorgeous views.

P.S. looking back up the garden at the back of the house, note that whilst our garden stretches across the entire width of the house, it is semi-detached, and we live in the right hand half of the property only.

We live in a lovely semi-detached, thatched cottage on the edge of a small hamlet of just 17 houses near Newbury, West Berkshire. With outstanding views of open countryside in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Hill Green, lies at the heart of the Royal County of West Berkshire.
Seemingly in the middle of nowhere we are nonetheless just four miles from a key crossroads of fast roads which connects us with all four corners of Southern England.
Oxford, and the pre-historic site of the Uffington White Horse, are less than half an hour to the north, historic towns of Winchester and Salisbury with their landmark cathedrals, Stonehenge, and the beaches and ports of Southampton and Portsmouth are not far South; West lies the city of Bath and links to the Cotswolds, Maritime Bristol, Wales and the west country beyond, and royal Windsor and West London are no more than an hour away.
