Notre maison

Our home has the feel of a light, airy penthouse with floor to ceiling windows, overlooking water on 2 sides. It offers a lovely mix of modern, urban living with a sense of tranquility overlooking one of London's oldest canals. Our apartment block was only completed at the beginning of 2013 so everything is in good condition and the fittings are all completely up to date.

There are two double bedrooms both with king size beds and the main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. Across the corridor from the second bedroom is a guest bathroom.

The living area is really spacious and wonderfully light with plenty of room to lounge and relax on the sofas and armchairs, as well as there being a large dining table seating up to 8. There's a high quality hi-fi system and a very large collection of CDs for you to play, ranging from classic pop, rock and disco, through indie and house/dance to jazz and classical. You can also play music from your iThing/smartphone through the system (after downloading a free app).

The kitchen is separated from the living room by a partition meaning that you can cook with some privacy. It's narrow but well designed so that all the equipment you need is easily accessible. Be warned, there's no microwave. Next to the kitchen is a separate utility area containing the washer/dryer.

The balcony is off the living room and extends the length of the apartment. It's south facing and catches the sun (if it's shining) all day. It's delightful to sit here with a glass of wine and enjoy all the activity on the canal or the towpath. Narrow boats pass regularly and there's a remarkable amount of bird life considering we're in the centre of a city - Coots, ducks, swans, cormorants and herons are not uncommon.

We don't own a car but you'll be welcome to borrow our 2 bikes (Marin Kentfields), which have their own lockers downstairs in the courtyard.

The Regent's Canal separates Dalston from Hoxton and Shoreditch, so we're right in the middle of one of London's most bustling and active neighbourhoods. Walks along the canal quickly bring you to Broadway Market, London Fields and Victoria Park. In the other direction you arrive at Angel, Islington, and the shopping, eating and drinking delights of Upper Street.

Fantastic access to the nightlife of Shoreditch and Dalston; top restaurants, bars and real local London pubs; great transport links reaching Covent Garden, Soho and Oxford street within 30 minutes, and the City within 15 minutes.
