Notre maison

Our home is comfortable and spacious, with a big open plan living space and kitchen opening onto the garden on the entrance level. Upstairs there are bedrooms over two floors. The house also has a sunny rear courtyard with large study come utility room and an ensuite guest room opening onto it.

I love gardening and we have a beautiful variety of trees and shrubs in raised beds around a 22-yard York Stone wicket [completed this year for our cricket mad sons]. Our home is warm, friendly and filled with light. Its a great place for having friends over, whether to BBQ in the garden or have a cosy night in. We love watching films and have a projector rather than TV for screenings, sport or playing games [on a 3m wide screen]. We also have an extensive library.

Dubbed 'the Greenhouse' by neighbours it has indeed proven good place for growing things: a family, a garden and an ideas about light and materials. My husband and I are both architects. This was one of our first projects and 12 years later is still one of our favourites.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. My husband Peter Thomas and I are both architects. Our sons Daniel [aged 12] and Atyeo [aged 6] are very active, fun loving kids, so anyone visiting with children will find plenty to keep them amused both at home and nearby. Though they both love pets, we don't have any, though we often borrow friends dogs and walk them on the heath. At home we have a Wii and Xbox which they play projected onto a huge screen. Favourites are Fifa, Formula 1 and Lego Starwars. We also have a keyboard and a music room [which converts via a pull down double bed into a second master or guest bedroom if needed]. We also all love reading - you're most welcome to dip into anything from Horrible History to the classics, via quite a lot of design and popular fiction.

We also have a lovely cleaning lady who is so sweet and helpful and would be available to help you settle in and keep eveything in order.

We look forward to hearing from you. Best Catherine du Toit

The neighbourhood is urban and leafy. Hampstead Heath is a five minute walk past listed London terraces and we enjoy walking there all through the year. Its great for football, cricket, running, swimming and picnics. I favourite walk is up to Kenwood House for brunch or tea and cake. On Saturdays there is a farmer's market which we like to go to, though most of our weekly fruit and veg comes via an organic box scheme [which you would be welcome to use].

Highgate and Hamstead are a close by, as is Camden town, all easy to reach on foot or by handy buses which stop right outside the garden gate. Kentish Town is the closest high street, transformed over the past couple of years to include nando's Pret, Costa, a large and well stocked health food shop and very large middle eastern food emporium.

There are also any number of good restaurants and pubs nearby, including the famous Pineapple and Bull and Last, and also a gym, open air and indoor swimming pools and tennis courts.

Transport is very easy - we don't have a car as we work locally and so rarely use one during the day, but do use a local Streetcar when we need one, choosing from a fleet of zippy BMW's or Golfs. Two busses stop right outside the house, going into the West End and Liverpool Street via Kings Cross - you might fancy a quick trip on the Eurostar during your stay? The local rail networks also make the Tate Modern, St Paul's and the South Bank less than half an hour away, and even Kew and Richmond are easy to get to.
