Notre maison

Churchill Gardens is a Grade II Listed 1950s public housing estate, quiet and spacious, bordering the Thames on one side and the neo-classical terraced rows of Pimlico on the other. So the flat, not being new, has high ceilings and thick walls and it is warm (communal central heating and hot water) in winter and has plenty of light (being on 5th floor with open views). For a visitor its location in Zone 1 may seem second to none. Practically everywhere you might like to go, from Harrods to Piccadilly, from the Houses of Parliament to the London Eye is walkable. Nearest tube is Pimlico Station.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I'm Adrian, not retired in any official sense but stopped working after a career in banking, now writing a book. My girlfriend normally joins me on house exchanges, making two travellors and we've had all great experiences. We normally look for opportunities to windsurf and snorkel, rather than city breaks or cultural locations.

Pimlico borders Chelsea, Victoria and Westminster. Across the water is the local park, Battersea Park. There is a Tesco Metro, Fish & Chip shop and other essentials on Lupus St running past Churchill Gardens, and a full-sized Sainsbury's a short walk away. Plenty of restaurants, including classy Italian eatery, Enoteca Turi on Pimlico Road nearby.

Possible things to do:

1. Walk to Tate Britain. Then take riverboat service downriver to Tate Modern (however this is slightly pricey and infrequent). Have lunch. Then walk on to Borough Market or walk over Millenium Bridge to St Pauls Cathedral. Then take tube home.

2. Walk through quiet Pimlico neighbourhood to Sloane Square. See art in Saatchi Gallery, have coffee in Piazza outside. Do shopping in Kings Road. Then walk up Sloane St for more shopping at Harrods and Knightsbridge. Then go into Hyde Park. Visit two Art spaces, Serpentine Gallery and Serpentine Sackler Gallery, then have cup of tea at Serpentine Bar and Kitchen, then walk home

3. Walk to Buckingham Palace and watch changing of guard in morning. Then go on to China Town for cheap dim sum lunch.

4. Cross bridge over River Thames and spend an hour in Battersea Park. Do Go Ape activities or mini golf
5. Take bicycles from self-service self-hire rack and bike around

6. Walk up to Houses of Parliament and over the bridge to London Eye. Go on to South Bank. Have cup of tea or see a concert. Cross to Covent Garden for dinner or theatre.
