Notre maison

My 17 year old daughter and I have a beautiful house ten minutes walk from the centre of Lancaster, a lovely old city in the north west of England an hour's drive (or trainride) from the spectacular Lake District; two and a half hours on the train from Glasgow, and three hours on the train from London. There are two double bedrooms, and a good size office which could be used for one or two more beds if needed. There's a dining kitchen and a wood burning stove as well as central heating. It's got a big garden and a wonderful view of Lancaster's historic castle and priory. There's a trampoline in the garden by the way, feel free to bounce! We have a friendly cat, Harriet, which we'd want you to feed (or our friends could come and feed her if you're away for a day or two). It's an hour from Manchester, Liverpool and Blackpool airport - all three are a £50 taxi ride.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I work at Lancaster University in the continuing education department and am also doing a part time PhD in history at Strathclyde University. My daughter is doing A levels at a local school. We did a swap in Boston in 2007 and will be attending St Chartiers folk festival in 2009 via Paris. We're looking for a short sunny break at Easter/Passover too. We're always looking for new ideas too so try us.

Within five minutes walk is a great little community centre with traditional Irish music sessions every week and lots of other music concerts on - The Gregson. It also does fantastic food as does a little pub The Britannia which is even nearer. Within ten minutes walk is the Dukes Theatre with art house films every week. Up the hill 3 miles away is Lancaster University where I work - you can have my parking token and use the library and other facilities - which include a sports club and art galleries. Lancaster is a lovely old city with plenty of history as well as lots of pubs and nice walks along the river and the canal as well as in the mountains and the Forest of Bowland nearby. There's a health food shop and restaurant, and a supermarket, clothes shops and plenty of cafes, restaurants (Indian, Chinese, English, French, Italian) in the town centre 10 minutes walk away; the seaside at Morecambe 7 miles away and at Blackpool an hour away. Lancaster is a Cycling Development Town and has invested thousands of pounds for cyclists. We're an hour from the Lake District of course - Windermere and Ambleside...
