Notre maison

Studio House was originally a working painter's studio, designed by noted Anglo-American architect Rick Mather. It's now a three storey detached house with several glass walls and a glass ceiling -the perfect antidote to London's grey weather. The house is bright, quiet and calm with a garden front and back and balconies from each bedroom. Our North London neighbourhood is safe and rather trendy, with plenty of cafes, pubs, quality food shops and consistent, convenient public transport to anywhere in London by bus, train or underground. The vast expanse of Hampstead Heath (790 acres of park, sports facilities and ancient woods) is a five minutes walk, the Eurostar terminal is 15 minutes by train or tube and Oxford Street and West End theatres is approximately 25 minutes.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I'm an Anglo-American retired from a hectic but stimulating life in the film business. I like to spend at least six weeks each year in Sydney, Australia with my sons and grandsons. I also often exchange for short periods - usually five to 10 days - within Europe to smaller cites where public transport is available.

  2. I enjoy the arts, architecture and city life but also appreciate wild places and country treks. I've exchanged for many years informally or through another site, and especially like the opportunity to experience different ways of living in different places.

The Kentish Town/Dartmouth Park area is a friendly safe neighbourhood just 20 minutes by public transport but only a few minutes walk to the serenity of Hampstead Heath where you will find swimming ponds, tennis courts, open air cafes, an Olympic sized outside pool, Kenwood House with a renowned art gallery and summer concerts, a Saturday farmers' market and even a petting zoo.

Three minutes walk on Fortess Road you will find a baker, a Turkish green grocer, a quality fish monger, a very good butcher and delicatessen, a French wine bar, various small restaurants (Ethopian, Italian, Thai, Indian) and five cafes including a Writer's Cafe and a year round home made ice cream shop. A small Sainsbury supermarket is open from 7am to 11pm.

Ah, that is controversial. A complete listing is in the house book at the house.
En soirée
Ladies and Gents Bar in a converted public loo is a good place to begin (or end) the evening.
Bear and Wolf, on Fortess Road near Tufnell Park Road or Saint Expresso at Kentish Town.
Fortess Road between my house and Tufnell Park Rd. EVERYTHING is there.
Today the neighbourhood is packed with writers and artists and journalists and media folks. Plenty of famous faces but we pretend not to notice. Historically, it's been a hotbed of liberal/left wing thought. You can visit Karl Marx's grave in Highgate Cemetery, a short walk up the hill.
Miles of walks on Hampstead Heath, or walk the Capital Ring, delightful leafy walks that circle London - 78 miles in 15 sections. There are also guidebooks for
