Notre maison

Our home is a traditional timber framed Suffolk cottage that dates back to the seventeenth century. We have spent the last twenty five years completely renovating it to retain the period features, but adding all modern facilities.

It boasts beams and studwork throughout, has an Inglenook fireplace with evidence of an old bake oven, a wood burner and even an exposed mullion window. It is clean and comfortable and has a cosy, restful feel.

The light and airy kitchen has an old pine table, a modern butler sink and double glass doors opening on to a small courtyard garden which hosts a barbecue and garden table and chairs. Adjacent to the kitchen is the cloakroom/utility room.

The carpeted lounge has two comfortable leather sofas, television with Freesat channels.. Studwork separates this from a spacious dining area.
The staircase with glass balustrade leads from the lounge to timber floored landing. Bedroom 1 has a king sized bed, fitted wardrobes and leads to the en-suite. Both bedroom 2 and 3 have king sized beds and wardrobes. Bedroom 4 is the smallest housing a single bed.

The family bathroom offers a full size bath, separate shower unit and even an original fireplace!

To the side of our home there is a drive able to support three vehicles.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. At the moment we are not in a position to offer exchanges for 2019.

We are Alec and Mel, both retired. We have spent years lovingly renovating our treasured cottage, a stark contrast to our professions of working with patients in healthcare and teaching special needs children. We love any kind of project, large or small, travelling, people watching from pavement cafes, interior design and art, walking and reading.
We have five children who have all flown the nest and have blessed us with gorgeous grandchildren.

  2. We have organised eight very successful exchanges.

The village of Ixworth has all essential amenities: two small supermarket (one with a post office), newsagent, butchers, two pubs, restaurant, café, two hairdressers, Chinese takeaway and a medical centre. Additionally there is a library, large playing field with play park, two churches, antique showrooms and plenty of local walks.

A ten minute drive brings you to the charming, historical and beautiful town of Bury St Edmunds. The cathedral, abbey ruins and rivered gardens are a delightful contrast to the bustling town centre with its twice weekly market, one off shops and small modern shopping precinct. There are numerous medieval buildings, evidence of this historic market town. Bury St Edmunds has two theatres, a multi-screen cinema, a national brewery and museum, town walks and numerous cafes, restaurants and bars. For the more energetic there is a sports centre, tennis courts, golf courses, fitness clubs, spa and nightclubs. The indoor adventure centre offers energy releasing challenges for the young. On the periphery of the town there are all the leading supermarkets.

Slightly further afield there are zoos, outdoor adventure centres, castles, historic buildings and the coast. Ixworth sits centrally to the larger towns and cities of Ipswich, Cambridge and Norwich. We are just over an hour by train to London.
