Notre maison

We have a first floor one bedroom period flat in central Brighton, on the south coast of England. It has gorgeous high ceilings and huge sash windows in every room. There's a lovely open fire in the lounge and a balcony off the kitchen where you can sit and eat breakfast and admire the sea - if you lean out far enough! Although it is only one bedroom, the flat is extremely spacious by English standards and there is a double sofa bed in the lounge. Strictly no smokers but children welcome.

The flat has all the standard stuff: gas central heating, high speed wireless internet access, dishwasher, washing machine, shower over bath, gas cooker, etc. The one thing it doesn't have is a TV. We watch all our TV online as all the main English TV channels can now be watched this way. Also, who has time for TV when you're this close to the beach and all the pubs, restaurants, cafes, and shops you can handle?

The flat is literally minutes from the sea (and across the road from a fantastic French patisserie) and within 20 minutes walk of Brighton mainline railway station and pretty much all other parts of the city centre - Brighton is very compact. Supermarkets, restaurants, bars, cafes and one of Brighton's best parks are all within five minutes walk. Due to the central location, parking is difficult though (we don't own a car) but this won't be a problem as the Brighton bus system is fantastic and the bus stops right by the flat. With an all day bus pass you can easily get to Shoreham, Eastbourne, Lewes and even Tunbridge Wells.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. Debra (37) is originally from NZ and her fiance Stephen (42) is a Canadian who runs a small software development firm from home. We have been in the UK for approximately ten years and have recently become the proud but tired parents of our daughter Ella born March 2011! We do not require any special arrangements for our daughter as we travel with a portable cot/playpen.

We don't drink or smoke and would be more than happy to look after a pet or two (sorry no dogs) while on a swap. As Stephen works from home and I am currently on maternity leave with Ella, you can be assured that your home will be secure and your pets kept company almost 24/7.

We need broadband internet access for Stephen's work so would require that in any home swap agreement. We're very quiet, tidy and responsible and we will take care of your house, pets and plants as if they were our own. We haven't done any exchanges as yet but are experienced house and pet sitters.

I've stated we speak French but we have to admit it's just enough to get by. We're hoping to improve!

Brighton (or Brighton and Hove as it is officially) is a fantastic seaside town on the south coast of England just an hour from London by train. Lonely Planet calls it "the most vibrant seaside resort in England" and a "good-time getaway not to miss". Brighton is only 30 minutes by train from London Gatwick aiport.

In summer the pebble beach is packed with sunbathers and the beachside bars are a great place to chill out with a cold drink and listen to live music. In the North Laine there is a multitude of trendy cafes, restaurants and shops catering to every taste from bohemian to designer and the South Lanes' historic quarter is an intricate maze of cobblestoned alleyways, offering history and heritage amidst the antique, jewellery and designer shops. The city's nightlife is legendary but there's plenty of family fun too with the famous Brighton Pier, Sealife Centre and numerous gorgeous parks. If city life isn't your thing, you'll also find the beautiful Sussex countryside, castles, country houses, parks, forts and gardens just moments from Brighton too!

Brighton is arty, bohemian, vegetarian friendly, green, cool, fun and beautiful. We love it!

Dont miss: going inside the incredible Royal Pavilion, walks on the South Downs, Stanmer Park and Village, St Anne's Well Gardens, The Brighton Pier, watching the weird and wonderful world go by at a cafe in The North Laine, shopping and getting lost in The South Lanes, enjoying Brighton's best coffee at the Red Roaster, getting your organic fix at Infinity Foods.
