Notre maison

The house is a double terraced cottage, stone-built in 1788. It is sited on one side of a minor rural road, which runs up a wooded valley - Cragg Vale. The views are splendid.

The ground floor consists of a large kitchen/dining room, very substantially equipped, quarry-tiled floor, with a Rayburn solid fuel heater/cooker - there is also a gas cooker and a microwave. Also on the ground floor, a large living room, with an open wood-burning fireplace, sofa bed, TV and piano. Also a bathroom and a utility room.

On the first floor is a large master bedroom, a second bedroom, and a small art gallery, which can be used as a third bedroom. The second floor consists of two attic bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with a single bed.

Below, a double vaulted cellar.

Outside, a west-facing terrace with barbecues. There is safe parking for two cars directly outside the house, with more spaces just down the road.

  1. I'm a retired University Lecturer, in Music, and a very experienced home exchanger. My partner Lizzie is a retired BBC producer.

Hebden Bridge is a lively and interesting town, with a number of art galleries, quality restaurants, a cinema (showing a variety of films – the programme changes 3 times a week), the Trades Club – live music several evenings each week – and any number of original, as opposed to High Street cloned, shops.

Nearby are Todmorden, also a quirky town, again with galleries, and Haworth, home of the Bronte Parsonage. The countryside is beautiful - fields, woods and moors, all rather hilly, and excellent for walking and cycling, of the more energetic variety.

Farther afield are the major cities of Manchester & Leeds, both 45 minutes away, either by car or by train - direct lines to both. Historic York is an hour away.
