Notre maison

I have a 400 year old, English Heritage grade 2 listed, 3 bedroom terraced cottage that was once a worker’s cottage on a feudal estate called Peper Harow half a mile from the village of Shackleford in Surrey, UK. This is 35 miles south west of central London, which can reached by train in 35 mins from Guildford Station (5 miles from here). By road it would take about 50 mins. Portsmouth, on the south coast, is about 40 mins away by road.

Localisation

Quartier

The area is classified as of outstanding natural beauty and Peper Harow is said to have the finest views in Surrey.
The cottage is set in a cobbled courtyard surrounded by barns of similar age. In the center of the courtyard stands a grade 1 listed granary believed to be the best example of its kind in England. The courtyard has often been used as a film set for period dramas.
To the rear of the cottage are open fields.
The farm that surrounds the property was once mixed, including dairy, but now is only arable with a few horses. The estate even has its own tiny church and cricket club. Overall, the setting is simply outstanding.. an idyllic piece of rural English antiquity.
Inside, the character of the cottage means that the rooms are small, the ceilings are low (with exposed oak beams) and the finish is rustic; but it does have a certain charm.
There is a car available… a 1993 BMW 318.
