Notre maison

Our house is comfortable and modern and is situated on the edge of Exeter, in the South West of England, the area where English people go on holiday. Open country (the famous Devon hills) starts about 100 metres away from our front door, but it is only 5 minutes' drive into the centre of town, where you can find all the facilities of a regional capital. We are about 5 minutes' walk from the University campus, and our area is a popular residential centre for academics and teachers. The house is on three floors, and has three bedrooms and a study, two bathrooms and an additional cloakroom, a kitchen, a large sitting room with a magnificent view for about 20 km, and a dining room. Please note one double bedroom plus en suite is on the top floor and one double and one single bedroom (and bathroom) are on the ground floor (with one floor in between). The floor area is about 150 sq.m. There are gardens to the front and rear of the house, and parking on the drive or on the road outside. The sea is about 15km away, with a number of popular resorts, and two national parks, Dartmoor and Exmoor, are within easy reach. London is two hours away by train, and Exeter Airport (which is about 10 minute' drive from the house) offers flights to many European destinations including Paris, Malaga and Geneva. Many more flights are available from Bristol Airport, about one hour's drive away.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are both in our mid 60s and have recently retired from professional positions, Chris as a teacher and Marie as a University administrator. We have two children who are now married and have families of their own, and who live in other parts of Britain. We have lived in this house for 13 years and are experienced exchangers. We have travelled extensively in Europe, and we would consider many destinations for exchange and are very flexible in our choice. We would consider short or longer stays. We are very open to suggestions.

Devon is world famous for its exquisite landscape and charm, and has been a popular destination for English holidaymakers for decades. It is a delight to get lost in a network of Devon lanes, and there are numberless rural villages to stumble upon, and delightful old pubs to enjoy around the county. The coast is very popular. Nearby resorts include Dawlish, Exmouth, and the charmingly old-fashioned Sidmouth. Torquay is about half an hour away, and beyond that are wonderful places such as Dartmouth and Salcombe. Our favourites are the moors; Dartmoor, about 30 minutes' drive to the west, is a true wilderness, while Exmoor, to the north, combines wild open landscape with wonderful wooded valleys, all of it next to the sea. And an hour and a half away is the North Cornwall coast, with some of the finest cliff scenery in the world. Exeter itself is a city of about 150,000 inhabitants, with a very busy centre which combines the most modern of shopping centres with the medieval heart of the city set around the 13th-century cathedral, one of the high points of international Gothic.
