Notre maison

Our home is in the lovely Wiltshire market town of Devizes. It enjoys gentle views of Devizes Castle and surrounding countryside, yet a seven-minute walk takes you to the heart of this enchanting, medieval, town. Our three cats love visitors, and love cuddles. They are very self-reliant, and have their own separate living-quarters at night. Our neighbours look after them if you are away for a few days.

Our home is small (two double bedrooms and small spare/study room) but comfortable and modern, with a pleasant garden looking over the Castle moat and hill. A short walk away are lovely old pubs, cafes and shops, and walks by the Kennet and Avon Canal and its many locks.

We like to exchange with people who are at ease with cats. We love to look after your pets also.

Non-simultaneous exchange for June.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are Denise and Patrick, both retired from teaching and counseling. We like to read, walk in the hills, and visit - or welcome here - our children and grand-children who live in London. We enjoy traditional music, theatre and cinema, reading and gardening. We enjoy cooking and entertaining family and friends. We always like to spend some time with our exchangers, if convenient. We love animals, and enjoy caring for other people's pets.

Our three cats are friendly and love company, but are very independent, and easy to look after. Our neighbours are happy to look after them if you are away a few days.

Quartier

Devizes is a 13th-century Norman market town, with a strong, 18th-century, Georgian character, and bounded by the Kennet and Avon Canal. The Castle dominates and influences the lay-out of the streets, which follow the traces of the castle walls and ramparts, with the old Market Place at the centre of everything. The town has five hundred listed buildings, medieval churches and pubs, and splendid public buildings, which were built as market-houses and town-halls, many from the Georgian period of the 18th Century. Within a thirty minute drive across the rolling Wiltshire downs is the city of Bath, with its Roman buildings and baths and splendid Georgian Crescents. The spectacular Georgian villages of Marlborough and Lacock and the ancient stone circles of Avebury are twenty minutes away. Wiltshire is a county of beautiful chalky downs, old thatched houses and charming villages, about two hours from London. It is ideal walking country. The ancient Ridgeway, is about twenty minutes away. The glorious Salisbury Cathedral, and Stonehenge are within an hour's drive. The city of Oxford is about 75 minutes' drive. There is an excellent bus service to most of these towns.

Devizes has a theatre, cinema, and many good pubs, restaurants and cafes, swimming and sports centre, and a weekly market. Good music events or other entertainment most nights of the week.
