Notre maison

Our thatched cottage is absolutely delightful -steeped in history and retaining many original features, but with modern comforts. Built in the 17th century and Grade II Listed, in past times it was the village post office and bakery and still has the original baker's oven in the outhouse! A lovely book about the village and its history, written by one of the villagers, illustrates some intriguing photographs of Tea Cosy Cottage in days gone by. Previously owned by an English Lord and Lady, the cottage was featured in the "Daily Mail". There is full oil central heating in the cottage. Throughout the ground floor attractive slate tiles on the floors add to the character. The walls are approximately two feet thick and many of the windows have window seats. Original exposed beams throughout the cottage. Our well equipped kitchen is a light airy room with windows and stable doors to the front and rear. The sitting room is gorgeous, wonderfully cosy with a large inglenook fireplace containing a salt drying box and wooden seat on one side. The window seat, television table and coffee table have all been carved by a local craftsman from solid wood. Stairs leading from this room to the landing upstairs are a lovely feature of this old cottage where you will find oak floors throughout and a wealth of original beams. Part of the charm and intriguing character of this cottage is that it retains many original features. Our lovely secluded garden overlooks our walled vegetable garden.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are Nigel & Jacqueline, a professional couple in our 40's, married with a young baby son. We love to travel throughout the world and have been so lucky to experience wonderful places and differing cultures, meeting delightful & interesting people wherever we go. We also love to be at home, and have been fortunate to live in the Cotswolds,(where we have our cottage), one of the UK's most picturesque areas steeped in history and blessed with beautiful villages and stunning countryside. We are keen to try a home exchange which sounds a great way to see another country whilst at the same time allowing someone to experience ours. We would be keen to get to know our fellow exchange partners in advance via email to ensure we make their stay in our cottage as wonderful as possible and to facilitate their holiday.

Stretton on Fosse is a lovely village situated just off a roman road...the Fosse Way and is approximately 4 miles from both Chipping Campden and Moreton in Marsh?a perfect location for exploring the beautiful Cotswolds. It is also only 12 miles from historic Stratford upon Avon -in easy reach for going to see a play at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and visiting William Shakespeare's birthplace. An attractive village, steeped in medieval history, Stretton on Fosse was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, formerly housing two manors, at one time owned by King William the Conqueror and King Henry VIII. St Peter's church was rebuilt in 1841 in the Decorated style. The village is a mix of 17th century Cotswold stone farms and cottages, with later red brick dwellings. The Plough Inn, an 18th Century cosy village pub, serves delicious home cooked food. They were awarded the prestigious CAMRA Warwickshire pub of the year in 2008. The chef is French, the atmosphere lovely, and the friendly locals will be sure to give you a warm welcome. Excellent walks across stunning countryside are plentiful, and horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, hawking, falconry and many other sports are available locally.
