Notre maison

Our house is called Merano Cottage and it has beamed ceilings in the through lounge and dining room which is open through an archway to the kitchen and utility area. There is a stove in a large stone fireplace in the lounge. A small conservatory overlooking the rear garden is off the lounge. The kitchen has Italian tiled floor and is a continuation of the dining room. The rear garden has an area of decking around the heated outdoor pool and a stone built barbecue. There are two areas of lawn and mature trees. The lower garden has a shed, greenhouse and washing carousel. There is a double garage to the side of the house and the front garden is large and the drive is of blocks.

Upstairs there are three double bedrooms, the main bedroom having ensuite shower room and a large bathroom with jacuzzi bath. The house has gas central heating. The house is in an elevated situation overlooking the harbour and has views across to Torquay and beyond. It is a quiet area and you can walk down to town and local shops.

There is a cottage attached to the house originally built for my mother and we can move in there, so it is possible to do non-simultaneous exchanges, as we want to go to New Zealand in Feb/March 2011. We can take care of the garden and pool if a summer exchange is required.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. My husband is retired and is 70, I am 61 and am a legal secretary but I am retiring at the end of this year. We like travelling and our families are all grown up now. We have visited New Zealand twice briefly, once when we were on a World Cruise and again when we did a tour of Australia and New Zealand. I have a cousin who lives in Auckland.

My husband does a lot of work in the garden. We have a cocker spaniel and she will stay with friends while we are away.

Brixham is a fishing town of about 5,000 people altogether. It is quite picturesque and quite old in places. The local beach is stoney but there are sandy beaches short drives away. You can walk down to the town centre in a few minutes where there is a range of local shops, banks, post office etc. There are restaurants and cafes around the harbour. There are lots of lovely walks and you can walk to a country park. Devon is a very pretty county with lots of lovely places to visit e.g. Exeter which is a cathedral city and the moors of Exmoor and Dartmoor. You can take boat trips from Brixham to Dartmouth and across the bay to Torquay or you can go on fishing trips. There is nightlife in Torquay and there is a cinema in Paignton which is 5 miles drive.

During the summer there are always things going on in the town centre, i.e. markets and craft fayres, music, singing etc. There are several lovely local churches.
