Notre maison

Our house is tastefully renovated with exposed oak beams and polished wooden floors. The house was originally 2 farmers cottages from the 1700's that we have carefully renovated and extended into a contemporary home including under floor heating, Wood pellet stove, Solar hot water, Oak floor and a huge ding kitchen are that can seat 10+

The garden is large, private and south facing - perfect for alfresco breakfasts during the summer months. Our house is light and airy and is finished to a high standard with a modern stainless steel professional kitchen with linear hob and large island kitchen (dishwasher, washing machine, espresso machine)

During the winter months there's plenty of free wood pellets for our automated pellet boiler which gives off a lovely heat and dancing flames.

We have central heating in every room plus electric blankets to keep you cosy during the winter months with additional under floor heating in both the main bathroom and the en-suite bathroom to the master.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. Mark works in the renewable sector as a renewable developer and Mhairi-Ann is a TV producer of food programmes. We have a young son (2.5 years) and a daughter (10 months) and we are both food & coffee fanatics.

We have travelled extensively and we also lived in Australia for several years. We would like to swap our cosy house for something similar in France for summer 2011 but may consider other warm locations e.g. Croatia / Corsica / Italy / Sardinia / Portugal for summer 2011 (anytime between August and end of September)

Localisation

Quartier

Our home is situated in Bishops Castle (officially the smallest town in England) but with a big heart. It boasts several pubs and 2 micro breweries the oldest of which (the Three Tuns dates back to the 1600's !!).

The town has interesting antique shops and galleries whilst parts of the old castle offer amazing views over the rolling hill into Wales.

There are several cafes in the village together with numerous restaurants and gastro pubs in the surrounding areas many of which have world renowned food festivals (Ludlow & Abergaveny) we are also well situated for visits to the glorious Welsh coast - Aberdovey(approx 1.5 hr drive) whilst other interesting market towns and cities are all within a relatively short drive:

Shrewsbury 25 mins
Ludlow 20 mins
Chester 1 hour
Birmingham 1.5 hrs

Importantly we are only 30 mins from the M54 and onwards journeys using the M6 / M1 motorways.

London is 2 hrs by train from Shrewsbury whilst trendy Bath and historic Bristol are just 2 hrs drive away.

Ludlow is renowned for its food, boasting numerous specialist foodie shops; cheese, meats etc and is well known for its summer open air theatre staged within the Castle grounds

The area is also a haven for peace and tranquillity with numerous long distance footpaths (Offas Dyke and the Shropshire way all passing through or very close to our cottage)

Our house is also situated on an original Drovers road which was also later used as stage coach lane from London to Holyhead. In many places the wide open drovers roads flowing over mountain and moor are in pristine condition.

Bishops castle also has its own swimming pool, doctor’s surgery, numerous food shops and supermarkets as well as speciality butchers selling local game and meats.

It also has a thriving film society held in the Three Tuns pubs - a classic film with a home brewed ale ! as well as numerous touring films with ‘flicks in the sticks’.
