Notre maison

Our stunning factory apartment is a rare piece of property in Oslo. It lies right next to Akerselva - a shallow river that runs through the whole city from north to south - providing us with river views from several rooms. Renovated in 2002, our apartment is completely modern but with 4 enormous windows and a 5-meter high ceiling in the main living area. We live on a high first floor, with two bedrooms + bath in the high basement floor, plus a mezzanine that we use as a workspace, where two can sleep comfortably. Outside there is a small garden space right under our windows, with table and bench, and where the sun also shines until evening. We live in a little area called Lilleborg, tucked away next to the river. Across our plaza is a small café and a grocery shop with large selection of fresh produce. At the end of our building is another tiny café and a small theatre stage. No city noise, no traffic to speak of. The city center is within walking distance - you can walk along the river either down to town or north to the woods.

We also have a summer farm house in Sweden, a beautiful cottage on a rural property bordering a lake, 1.5 hours drive from Oslo. You can borrow this place as well if you want some time in the quiet countryside. Lots of canoe rental in the area, vast amount of inland lakes and canals for paddling. Maybe you'll see moose. In summer we often live here for extended time, so exchanges don't have to be simultaneous.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are an American/Swedish couple in early/mid 50's. We work in the areas of design and music, practicing/researching/teaching. We have three pretty much grown up children (25, 23, and 19). None of them live at home anymore, although we do have an unobtrusive white cat. We are non-smokers, and very friendly, tidy, responsible people who will take immaculate care of your place.

Our very charming neighborhood is a little bit north and east of the center of the city, with busses to many central locations two minutes from our front door. We have a great grocery store just across the plaza (you can go there in your slippers!) and good bakeries/sushi bars/restaurants in very near vicinity - 5 min walk. You can easily stroll to town center (about 30-40 minutes), walking along the river most of the way. You can also walk north along the river to the woods. Or you can hop on a city bike, a bus or the metro for a much quicker trip.

Oslo is a fantastic destination - it is a unique combination of culture and nature - on the one hand it's the national capital with museums/galleries, theater, festivals, cinema, restaurants (incredible food!), and on the other hand the ocean and the woods right at the edge of the city. You can take a boat out to one of the islands for a picnic, swim at one of the ocean beaches, rent a bike or just go hiking - the metro will take you up to the edge of the forest and from there are 100's of kilometers of trails. Cabins where you can spend the night or just bring a tent and a fishing rod. Mountain hiking a few hours drive or train ride away.

One of the newest public spaces is the Opera House: a sloping white marble roof-scape that descends into the ocean and that you can walk on. The whole waterfront is under development - Wallpaper magazine gave Oslo a design award for one of five best cities in 2011, writing:
"Oslo is finally emerging from the long design shadow left by its illustrious neighbors, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Helsinki. Snøhetta's 2008 Oslo Opera House was merely the first stage in a 225-hectare Bjørvika docklands regeneration project known as Fjord City, which will include a Renzo Piano-designed Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art. Meanwhile, gentrification of the district of Grünerløkka has turned it into the city's hot 'hood, full of delis, boutiques, bars, clubs and restaurants. Oslo's setting between a fjord and a national park, and its manageable size, only add to its appeal, while its ecological vision makes it one of the most environmentally friendly capitals in the world."
