Notre maison

We live in a beautiful house in Oslo on an island (ULVØYA) only a 5-minute drive from the downtown Oslo central train station. We want to find a long-term swap in the USA for a year and are open to other swaps. Our large 2-story home is located on a woodsy lot in a cul de sac only 100 yards from the beach and tennis courts, and we have a playhouse, swings and a trampoline. Our house is a two-story, 5 bedroom, 2 bathroom with a garage. You walk into an entré with a skylight in the raised ceiling, and either take a right upstairs to three bedrooms, a studio and a bathroom, or go straight on into the hall, then the main open living space. Downstairs has two more bedrooms, another bathroom, a separate lavatory, a laundry room and an office looking out through sliding glass doors to the garden and small forest behind it. The office and washroom have high speed broadband and Dell PCs on a network, and the office has a wood-burning stove. It adjoins an open large kitchen and dining space and living room with 2 skylights in the raised ceiling, a fireplace, and big windows out to the garden. Our floors are ash, oak, and cork except for the tiled entrance and bathrooms, which are heated floors. Three bedrooms are good-sized, as is the office and two additional bedrooms are small. 10 people can easily sleep here. We own a 7-seat Volvo V70, a 2-seat electric car and various sports equipment for your use

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I am a Norwegian-American woman named Tanya who grew up in Southern California and works as an expressive arts therapist. My Danish husband Per grew up on a dairy farm, and works as a systems engineer for national commercial TV. We have three kids, two girls and a boy whose ages currently (2007)are 7,9 and 12 years old). We are non-smokers with aquarium fish and house and garden plants (but we could get someone else to care for these if desired). And we are considerate, tidy people. We home-swapped with a family in Tiburon, California in 2003, with a family in Seattle in January/February 2006, and a Hawaiian family the summerof 2007.All 3 swaps have been a great experience.

Localisation

Quartier

Ulvøya is a wonderful little community with its own local theater troupe, marching band, and annual parades and parties. We have a local grocery store/post office and bus stop on the island. There are many families and retired people on the small island and the atmosphere is friendly and village-like. During the summer our place is a beach and boating paradise, and the beach is 100 meters from our back gate. When it has been windy I have carried my sailboard from the house to windsurf many times, and see kiters there too. There are numerous boatdocks surrounding the island. In the winter the snow is good here for cross-country and downhill skiing. The free, excellent, lit and prepared cross-country trails are just a fifteen-minute drive from our home, and along them are warming cabins with food and drink to rest at. Holmenkollen ski jump is a 25-minute drive away from us, with its spectacular views and more trails and downhill slopes. When the fjord in front of our home is frozen people go ice-skating and fishing on it.
The drive from our island home to the city center takes about 5 minutes unless it is rush hour. Then it might take 15 minutes. It is extremely direct and easy to reach. The cheapest and usually available parking in the city center is by the old fort and costs under $3/hour. Many people take public transportation or bike to town.
The capital of Norway, Oslo with its 500, 000 inhabitants is full of music, art, cafes, the palace, the parliament, etc....
