Notre maison

Our home overlooks Wellington city and harbour and is within easy walking distance of the city. We have a lovely open living space with views from almost every spot. Its very sunny and light with french doors opening onto the deck facing north for all day sun and views. It can be windy in some weather but very sheltered on other days. We have plenty of comfy sofas and a log fire. The rooms are all upstairs except for a study/single room and bathroom and laundry downstairs.

We have two bedrooms with queen beds so can sleep two couples and there is a study that can be used as a single bedroom. We have a bathroom/toilet both upstairs and down including a shower in each one. One of the queen bedrooms has a lovely view, as does the study/single bedroom.

You do have to brave about 50 steps up to the house but we're so used to them, we don't even notice them and the view is worth it.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a couple in our sixties with three adult children. I'm a psychotherapist and Stuart is a semi retired engineer. We love the outdoors and the natural world; I'm a keen tramper(hiker) and Stuart is into bird watching. We are just back from living and working in the UK for six years and travelling extensively while there. We are keen now to re-acquaint ourselves with NZ as well as continuing trips overseas when possible.

Wellington is a small and vibrant capital city with lots of wonderful cafes, galleries and theatres, as well as easy access to outdoor activities and wild natural environments. We are at the city end of Brooklyn so it's about 15-20 minutes walk to the vibrant and interesting Cuba St area, and about a half hour walk down to the waterfront or Oriental Bay beach. We enjoy walking home back up the hill but there are also frequent buses. In Brooklyn itself, there is a wonderful cinema that shows an excellent selection of movies; there are two cafes, a deli/cafe and a shop with very tasty pies, takeaway shops, small convenience stores and a small library. The one restaurant, the Salty Pigeon, is highly recommended.

There's good walking to be had from our front door, up to the windmill, down to the Aro valley, over to the University or the Terrace, several different tracks into the city, some through Central Park, and it's very easy to access a range of mountain bike tracks. And there are wonderful walks in different parts of the city. My favourite walks are around the Miramar Peninsula, right by the sea with views of the mountains across the bay and interesting houses along the road.

We are also 10 minutes drive to the south coast, a wonderful place to walk with views to the south island and access to several different beaches as you drive around numbers of bays, for swimming (cold except in high summer!), surfing and cafes.
