Our home is the architectural centre piece of a huge organic garden. It was built by a very talented boat builder who has done some incredible wood detailing inside! It consist of an open plan lounge/dining/kitchen/fire grotto room, a bedroom (with a double bed and double mezzanine bed) and a big mezzanine floor with a double bed and cot (optional). There is an extensive veggie patch and orchard outside so there is always something fresh to eat. We have five acres of garden in which to sit and enjoy cocktails, make pizzas in the beautiful pizza oven or the kids to make huts... everyone's happy here! Unwind and watch the moon rise in the outside bath under cover so you can do it in all weather. Our house is a piece of paradise!
We are a lesbian couple with a 6 month old baby. We both work in child care, Liz with special needs and Stephanie with early childhood. Liz was born and raised in Kerikeri and we have chosen to bring up our little Phoenix here as we have lots of family support and such a great environment. Stephanie is from Paris and tries to get home every year to see family and friends. We both love travelling and actually met in India years ago, since then we have been all over the place, but now with our new little man and a house we're trying to find a way for our adventures to continue.
It is only seven minutes from the main centre of Kerikeri or 20 biking, but it feels like a million miles from anywhere! There is a beautiful river swimming hole down the driveway for those long hot summer days. Kerikeri is the centre of the Bay of Islands which is one of NZ's top holiday destinations. With access to all water sports including dolphin watching! We're only 15 minutes to our nearest beach and have multiple forest walks around. Having a car is essential in this area and we are happy to leave our one for exchangers to use, we also have a bike you can use. There are a lot of local galleries in which to find original Kiwi souvenirs and art, there are a range of delicious restaurants and cafes as Kerikeri is quite a cosmopolitan town. Kerikeri is also a very historic town with NZ's oldest building and 20 minutes to Waitangi treaty grounds, here you have access to, and are surrounded by Maori culture.
