Our very comfortable home is set back from the street and surrounded by mature trees providing privacy and peace. We have views across the lake to the mountains and are close to a beautiful botanical reserve.
Built originally in the 1960s it has been progressively modernised, is well presented and offers all the modern facilities. The house features a galley kitchen within an open plan family room that opens out on to a northern aspect deck with barbeque. There is a separate formal dining room and large separate lounge that accesses a covered veranda. Our home has three double bedrooms, two upstairs (with ensuite) and one downstairs with access to separate bathroom and toilet. There is internal access to the double garage.
A car is necessary and local use of our Subaru Outback would be available. There also two mountain bikes for the lakeside trails.
We are Patty and Doug in our early 70s. Patty's career has spanned nursing and early childhood education. Doug has a background in civil engineering and more recently international management consulting. We both have a love for the outdoors and enjoy bush walking, wildlife and exploring. Patty has a special interest in history and the arts and we are both keen on travelling to new places and experiencing other cultures. We have one daughter and two lovely granddaughters aged 21 and 11.
We have traveled extensively and experienced three highly successful home exchanges. Now being semi-retired there is time to pursue more travel opportunities.
Taupo offers a full range of outdoor activities. The summers are hot and dry and the winters fairly crisp. July and August are the coldest months.
Winters offer two excellent ski fields on Mt Ruapehu within 90 minutes drive. Summers provide excellent world class alpine tramping (Tongariro National Park), trout fishing and water sports on NZ's largest lake. There are geothermal hot pools to help recovery from these activities.
Taupo, a dynamic small city with a population of some 30,000, provides all the essential services and has a range of very good restaurants and pubs. For more extensive shopping Rotorua is just over an hour away by car or bus.
