Notre maison

Our home is an old cottage that we bought and renovated about 8 years ago. It has 2 1/2 bedrooms - the half is currently used as our study but we will include a bed for visitors who require it. The land goes down the a coastal walkway - very popular for walkers and cyclists - and beyond it is the inner estuary. It's very pretty with the tide coming and going and all the different sea birds as they migrate and leave. It is very peaceful in our little slip road of only 5 houses with lots of native birds, wood pigeons, tuis and doves. Usually the first sound you hear in the morning is our resident tui - who we have nick-named Stuey. Another regular is Fatso, a huge native wood pigeon, who sits in the guava tree when the fruit is in season and gorges himself. Our deck is large and, as the house is north-facing, is a real suntrap. Meals can be had outside on the deck all summer and even longer. The single bathroom is large and includes spa bath, shower, vanity and WC. There is a small separate laundry with clothes drier. This is an ideal summer home so perfect for a couple or small family's holiday.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a middle-aged couple, both originally from the UK. We love to travel and now, with our business sold, we are looking forward to spending more time in the UK and Europe.

The local Hilltop shops, about a 3 minute walk away, include a popular Thai restaurant, liquor shop, takeaway and dairy. Main shopping with banks, restaurants, supermarkets and general retail is in the Orewa township which is about a 4 minute drive away. The main road runs parallel with the beautiful Orewa beach where there is a Surf Club and new walkways to stroll along. At the end of the highway, tucked away in a mature tree and historic building setting, is the Walnut Cottage, owned and run by Klaus and Kerstin and helped during school holidays by their son, Yves. Klaus was a popular chef at the Hyatt Regency for a number of years before moving with his family to Orewa and taking over this charming restaurant. The food includes a delicious mix of local and European cuisine. Up the hill from the Walnut Cottage is a lookout which gives a spectacular sweeping view down the Orewa beach. 20 minutes north is the historic township of Warkworth, a pretty picturesque village, surrounded by vineyards, villages, and beaches. Heading further north again there is an incredible amount of history with the accolade-winning Kauri museum on the way to Paihia and Russel, New Zealand's first capital and once nicknamed the Hellhole of the Pacific. Hard to imagine today when you visit the sleepy seaside village with all its historic buildings including the country's first Anglican church, complete with century-old bullet holes from the maori wars. Apart from the history, the scenery is some of the finest in the world. There will be many many `Aaahh' and `Oooohh' moments for the keen sightseer.
