Notre maison

We have a comfortable 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home (230m2) in quarter acre grounds (1100m2). French doors open from the family room onto the lovely rear garden. Very much designed for outdoor living – cricket, soccer, rugby (of course), boules, large trampoline, large sandpit, 'fort', toys galore, etc. For the adults, a barbeque, 8-seater outdoor furniture and New Zealand’s unique Sauvignon Blanc!
The ground floor has a comfortable lounge equipped with 2 sofas, gas fire, TV, DVD, VCR, Hi-Fi, etc. For the quiet night in, we have many DVDs, CDs and books. The kitchen overlooks the lawn and is equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, toaster, cappuccino maker, sandwich press, fridge/freezer, and dishwasher. A laundry room has washer, dryer, plus second fridge (for wine, beer & cold drinks).
The 4 bedrooms are all double. The master bedroom with king double has a large picture window looking out towards the volcanic island of Rangitoto, walk-in wardrobe, en-suite with shower, and an open area used as an office has 2 networked computers both with DSL Internet. Our two children’s rooms are equipped with 2 single beds in each room (TV, VCR, DVD in one); the children share an en suite with shower. The fourth bedroom has a double bed. The third family bathroom has both a bath and third shower.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We were all born in different countries: Gabrielle (Scotland), Nigel (England), Luke (Switzerland), and Sophie (New Zealand).
Nigel is an information systems consultant and Gabrielle is an early childhood Montessori-trained teacher. We are mature parents (55/49) having spent many years working and travelling overseas.
We left the UK in 1982 to live in Bermuda. We later lived in Geneva, Switzerland for 6 years where we both worked for the United Nations.
We arrived in New Zealand in 1996, where we have settled. We have two well-behaved, well-travelled children Luke 14 and Sophie 8.
We like to give the children exposure to other cultures and languages.
Our interests are travel, outdoor activities, tennis, walking, and reading.
We have enjoyed 4 home exchanges to Holland, France and Australia (twice).
In 2004 we did a 2 month tour of Europe and would love to repeat the experience in 2008/2009. We are now constrained by NZ school holidays and are looking for a European exchange in December 2008 - January 2009.

Localisation

Quartier

We are located on Auckland’s North Shore in an area known as East Coast Bays; a desirable residential area with easy access to the city (10 miles / 17km). Yet only a 5-minute walk to beautiful South Pacific Ocean beaches. The beaches are sheltered within the Hauraki Gulf and are popular year-round for swimming, sailing, kayaking and light surfing. If big waves are your thing, it takes less than one hour to get to the west coast and the rugged Tasman Sea – a stunning contrast to our calm east coast beaches.
The beachside village shops are just a 2-minute drive or a 10-minute walk via the beach. The village has cafes, restaurants, take-aways, supermarket, medical centre, and ample estate agents.
A challenging 18-hole golf course is 2 minutes by car and tennis courts are nearby.
Fishing, cruising, kayaking, vineyards, golf, hiking, horse riding, walks and bungee jumping are just a few of your recreational options. New Zealand has many water-based leisure activities including swimming with dolphins and whale watching.
We are 20 minutes drive to the centre of Auckland - The City of Sails. NZ is one of the least populated developed countries making it safe but unspoilt. There are so many stunning places to visit. Must see for any visitor to NZ are Rotorua to the south of Auckland and Bay of Islands to the north.
NZ has a large Polynesian population. The Pacific Islands of Fiji are only a 3-hour flight.
