Notre maison

We built our white stucco, colonial-style house seven years ago in the four hundred year old town of San Miguel de Allende. It is located within the Centro Historico, just seven blocks from the center of town. Because the house is built on the side of a hill, it is spread over three levels.
All areas of the house open onto patios or terraces.
The property's entrance from the street is on the middle level which includes a small entry patio, stone fountain and a large tile mural of the towns most significant and memorable building, the Parroquia church. Also, a small stairway leads to a bedroom from this patio.
The entrance to the main part of the house is on the upper level, which opens to an entry hall with tiled ceiling and a half-bath. Beyond is a large living room and outdoor terrace. From the living room, a short hallway leads to the formal dining room. These rooms have tile wainscots and also stone or stucco fireplaces. Behind the dining room is the kitchen, laundry and garage.
The kitchen is fully equipped with double built-in gas ovens, a gas cooktop, dishwasher a large copper sink and a small copper prep sink. Also there are plenty of cookbooks both English and bilingual, dishes, glassware and linens to set an attractive table.
On the lower level are three more bedrooms, two with king size beds and one with a queen bed.
Two of the bedrooms are located on either side of a patio, and one looks out over the garden.
All bedrooms have en suite baths, fireplaces, and ceiling fans. Air conditioning is not needed in San Miguel. The altitude of approximately 6,700 feet keeps this sunny town cool and comfortable. Our winters are usually mild and short (December through mid February). The winters can be cold but rarely drops below the freezing mark.
Also on the lower level is an informal living room with large screen cable TV and a game table.
This rooms opens onto a large garden patio that includes tree shaded dining areas and a pergola with two large banquettes for enjoying morning coffee or evening cocktails.
Also there is a rooftop terrace with spectacular views of the city and the mountains beyond.
There is a staff of two at the house Monday through Friday, 8:30 - 3:30 and Saturday, 8:30 -12:00. The housekeeper will prepare breakfast and a simple lunch leaving your evenings free to discover San Miguel's many good restaurants. There is also a house boy/gardener who speaks a little English and can help you with almost anything.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We have had a home in San Miguel for the last 20 years. We also have a home in Houston, Texas. We love the interesting people living in San Miguel. It is a lovely town and we feel fortunate to have a home here. Our children and grandchildren love it! We like to discover new places, collect antiques and Mexican textiles and ceramics. But best of all, we love spending time with our family and friends.

Our neighborhood is a mixture of colorfully painted homes, as is typical in San Miguel. The homes are a mix of elegant and humble, large and small. Some are multi -generational families, some are permanent residents, others are temporary visitors, some are foreigners, most are Mexican. All are friendly! It is about a five minute walk from our house to El Jardin, the main
square. El Jardin, the town's gathering spot for locals and foreigners alike, is always buzzing with activity. It is across from the magnificent Parroquia church and surrounded on all sides by shops and sidewalk cafés. The streets leading away from El Jardin are full of galleries, restaurants, stores and other points of interest like the flower, fruit and vegetable market, artisans market and many beautiful colonial Spanish baroque churches and buildings.
