Notre maison

The house is entered by a stairway to the first floor. This is actually an architectural feature of the city from the Middle Ages.
At the top of the steps is a small area or balcony where you can sit outside, although it is quite small, fitting only two chairs.
On entering, you are in the open sitting/dining/kitchen. There is also quite a large bathroom on this floor, with the washing machine.

There is a spiral staircase leading to the first bedroom on the mezzanine floor. It is very beautiful with the original beamed ceiling and walls made of volcanic rock.

Downstairs is the large bedroom and the very large bathroom, which you can’t help but love.

There is a tv, and dvd, some games and a large bookcase. We have a ‘take one and leave one’ holiday reading policy which comes in very handy when you’ve finished your book and need another.
The house is simple and so easy to keep clean. It is in a very quiet street, and everything is within walking distance.
Small local shops serve fresh fruit and vegetables with displays like a work of art.. The neighbours are very friendly and helpful.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I am a secondary school teacher, and also teach English as a second language. I have three sons and a daughter, thankfully all grown now. We love to travel and have been to quite a few countries. We prefer to get a sense of the customs and people by staying in local accommodation, and meeting local people, making an effort to learning some words in the language.
we all read a lot a play musical instruments and sing. The boys are interested in medieval re-enactment and computers.

Quartier

The immediate area is the medieval quarter of the walled city of Viterbo. We live Via San Pellegrino which is the main artery through the historical centre. Small artisans shops, antique shops line this main street, with little arches overhead, and a fountain in every square in the town. Viterbo is famous for it’s spindle fountains.

The is a Papal Palace and Cathedral. Three Popes lived in Viterbo when the political situation was too dangerous in Rome. The is also the fantastic Thermal Spa, Terme Dei Papi, where the Popes took the waters. It is beautiful and has a great swimming pool which you can use without taking a treatment.
To the north is Lake Bolesna with the town, where you can hire a boat, walk around the lakeside, or just sunbathe.

To the south you will find Lakes Vico and Bracciano and also lake Trasimeno. All are suitable for bathing. To the west is the Mediterranean sea. We hired a car and took a day trip to the Adriatic coast.

There is so much you can do from Viterbo. The train leaves every hour from Rome and takes about an hour and fifteen minutes to get to St. Peters. A different train will take you to Florence. There are many amazing small cities you can visit.

Viterbo is a fantastic base for day trips.
