Notre maison

My home is a beautiful open space- very simple clean and neat. Basically a big verandah with a high Balinese roof that catches the breezes and needs no air-conditioning. There are bedrooms at either end of the house which can be completely closed off from the outside if you need to. Its a home where Balinese farm life unfolds before you and the days slip by easily. It has a lovely large galley type kitchen included in the dining/living family area. The house overlooks the rice fields and the ravine beyond.

I have recently retired from working for the education department in Hong Kong for the past 10 years and before that working as a teacher in Australia. My children are grown up and live in Melbourne and London. In Hong Kong I was able to explore a number of places around the world and would like to continue with this and by exchanging homes, I think, allows for greater understanding and appreciation of cultures and lifestyles as well as making travel a lot more affordable!!! Also having my children at different ends of the earth gives me a reason to want to do exchanges! Hopefully we will all be able to get together for Xmas!

My house is situated in a small village, Penestanan Kaja, about 20 minutes walk from the centre of Ubud. I can get all my supplies from the local village shops or warungs as well as get a great cappuccino or latte at the corner western/Bali style cafe 5 minutes walk away. One can choose to cook and do for oneself or for very little money can frequent the local warungs or the more upmarket and diverse restaurants that abound in Ubud with the emphasis on healthy eating and lifestyle. There is also the opportunity to take part in fine dining and live music. Healers (a la Eat Pray Love) yoga and spas abound in Ubud as well. There are many galleries reflecting the local artisans traditional skills as well as modern. There are many things to do and discover on walks, bike rides or by hiring a car and driver for the day and explore further afield. Nothing is too far or too expensive here. Or just chill by the pool and order tiffin boxes, traditional Indonesian food or fusion from any number of local restaurants who deliver to your door.
