Notre maison

Our home is a family-friendly flat with beautiful views, on two floors, in a small 4-flat block. There's a large garden with a trampoline, a children's playground and a football pitch behind the house. The local pool, with a slide, steam room and a wading pool, is within walking distance, as is a grocery store and pharmacy. Pleasant walking paths are scattered all around us, as well as a large golf course. The flat has two bedrooms, a bathroom, an open-plan kitchen and living room on the bottom floor, and two bedrooms and a TV-space (with Playstation 4) on the top. The flat comes with our two cats, Lelouch and Tinni. They are very child-friendly, and very attached to their home! Our home is close to Smáralind, the largest shopping centre in Iceland, and is also conveniently located right by bus route no.2, which takes you straight to Reykjavik city centre. We are also a mere 35 minutes' drive from Keflavík International Airport.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a family of five: mother, father and three children aged 13, 9 and 5. Oh yes, and Tinni and Lelouch, our well-behaved cat boys.

  2. Björn works in finance and Johanna, who was born in South Africa but has lived in Iceland for 22 years, works in marketing.

  3. We all love films, books, travel and our cats :-). Ariadne is a manga fan and is learning Japanese. Embla is very much into football, so we spend quite a bit of time travelling to tournaments. Harpa is a music lover, but also likes kicking balls around when she gets a chance.

Localisation

Quartier

We're in a very quiet neighbourhood in a cul de sac, yet right by the main highway from the airport, as well as only 10 minutes walk from the largest shopping centre in Iceland, Smáralind. Though our neighbourhood, Lindahverfi, is not in central Reykjavik, it is smack in the middle of the greater capital area: we can get anywhere we need to go pretty fast! Behind our home is an enclosed children's playground, as well as a football pitch. Several smaller playgrounds are scattered around the area. This is a very family friendly neighbourhood, where kids roam the streets and play outside freely on the bright summer nights. From our home it's easy to take any number of pleasant walks on paved paths, go swimming at Salalaug, one of the best and newest pools in the capital area, or simply get in the car or the bus and go east, west, north or south to get the most out of your stay in the capital area.

Restaurants
The best cuisine is in central Reykjavik, but there are also several restaurants in Smáralind mall, including fast food joints such as Subway. In Garðabær, 5 minutes away, there's a nice restaurant called Mathús Garðabæjar as well as a good Asian fusion restaurant called Nü. Loads of pizza places available! And the excellent Tokyo Sushi has a take-away outlet in Krónan supermarket: down the road their volcano rolls are to die for.
En soirée
Downtown Reykjavík, only 10 min away by car. Easy to get a taxi or take the no.2 bus!
Cafés
Pure Deli in Gerðarsafn, Té og Kaffi in Smáralind and then the best coffee in the capital area at Pallet in Hafnarfjörður.
Lèche-vitrine
Netto grocery store 500m away. Smáralind shopping mall, 10 min walk. Or grab the no.2 bus that takes you to Kringlan mall or downtown Reykjavik. Oh yes, Hagkaup grocery and department store is 5 minutes' drive away in Garðabær and open 24/7
Culture
Kópavogur isn't know for its landmarks, but 10 min by car will get you to downtown Reykjavik where all major capital landmarks such as Hallgrimskirkja, Perlan, Austurvöllur Square and almost every notable museum can be visited. 5 minutes' drive will take you to Árbæjar Open Air Museum.
Promenades
Walking west from our home, walk past the graveyard, then cross the golf course. From there on you can either walk into the forestry plantation Heiðmörk (yes, we have trees in Iceland!), or take a nice walk around Vifillstaðavatn lake.
Un peu d'exercice
Salalaug swimming pool with a slide, wading pool, hot and cold tubs and steam room is around 800m from home. Plenty of walking paths are around our house. There's a basketball hoop around 50m from us, and lots of open spaces to kick a ball. We don't play golf, but there's a top golf course within walking distance.
Idées d’excursions
Explore Reykjavik City, with museums and eateries. For the kids, go to the domestic zoo and Árbæjar open air museum. Make a trip to Lágafellslaug in Mosfellsbær, and from there go to Þingvellir, Gullfoss and Geysir.
